Reverse and plate lights don't work when trunk is closed
1997 es300
When my trunk is closed my night time tail lights, license plate lights, and clear reverse lights stay illuminated. When I open the trunk and raise it about an inch they all pop back on. I've read some other threads that mention a module/wires leading to trunk lid on the hinge and don't know what to look for exactly.
Any ideas?

LH trunk hinge the wires fray and break. As you can see on my car I'll need to re-tape the harness soon.

The repair involves replacing bad sections of wires and/or insulating any sections of wire that are exposed. How difficult it is depends on your skill level and experience.
