Default Proper soldering iron for certain bulbs?

I only have a gas powered weller, although it's nice and portable, the tip isn't so great, and the gas is sometimes a con.. looking to buy the proper soldering iron to fix my 3ES.. not looking for something like a hakko for professionals..

radio lcd backlight bulbs, and perhaps the hazard light too, unless anyone has a bulb # or know how the hazard button lights up..

i was replacing my climate control bulbs, and the radio lcd backlight bulbs died, and the hazard just went out today when I was driving after :/

thanks in advance guys

Hi, this one would work just fine for what you need to do:

thanks guys, i'll invest in a weller one or something that looks like the radioshack one, since the interchangeable tips for the weller seem more common

You can probably find a unit like the one I linked to cheaper on ebay or somewhere. I just like that on because it is adjustable and has a wide variety of tips to choose from.

I used a cheap one from Radioshack and it was pretty awful, but got the job done.

Main issues I had with the cheap Radioshack unit: it took a looooong time to heat up, the tip was wobbly and did not transfer heat from the actual gun. Also, cleaning the tip is important in soldering and there was no real way for me to do it, so I used a screw driver to scrape it.

When you solder wires, the gun should be capable of heating up the wires, so that you can touch the solder and it would melt into shape on contact. I couldn't do that with this gun, I had to melt the solder with the gun and then transfer it onto the wires - no good.

The Weller unit is something I'm planning to get in the future. Having the right tool for the job makes all the difference.
