Lexus ES 300 - 13 MPG - 130 miles per tank
Hi everyone
Someone please help me out. I have a lexus ES300 2001 black that is getting TERRIBLE gas millage . It will go about 130 miles and the tank is empty. Keep in mind this is on the streets mostly. About 13 MPG it seems!!! Should i sell now? or take in to a dealer for service? what would you advise? Is something deeply wrong with the fuel system maybe?

I'm sorry no one has replied to you earlier.
Whether you sell your car or not is of course entirely up to you.
Very poor gas milage is usually accompanied by certain symptoms.
*very poor running characteristics, such as engine stutter, splutter, and poor power.
* a very noticeable fuel smell,
*fuel exiting the exhaust pipe.
*fuel leaking in the engine bay, or on the engine.
Extremely poor gas milage like you describe is a safety concern, as it's likely there is a leak more so if there is no obvious issue with the running of the car.
My suggestion would be take it to a mechanic/dealer/knowledgeable friend as soon as possible. It might not hurt to keep a small fire extinguisher on the passengers seat if you are driving it some where. If you chose a co2 powder or gas one, make sure you do not breathe at all when you pull the trigger, if you do, and you inhale the powder (or gas), if will feel like someone ripped all the air out of your lungs.
I'm not trying to scare you, it's just that fuel can cause a serious burns, which it terms of life events are very hard to come back from, even with the best of medical care.
