Default Possible Stupid Key Fob Question

Hey guys, my friend has a 02 ES 300. She was having some issues with the key fob battery. Long story short she lost the internals for the top of the key. While heading to her car I wondered if it had one of those smart keys that stop the car from starting.

She tried to start it and boom it wouldn't start. So is this a result of the key fob internals missing or ws that just a coincidence? When she tries to start it the headlight and everything come on but the car doesn't turn over.

Greetings:

I have a 2003 ES300 and I beleive the battery you're referring to is the one that powers the remote control to unlock the trunk, and unlock and lock the doors. There is also within the key, a transponder that is not powered by the battery. This transponder is programmed to be recognized by the car to allow the car to start. Is it possible that the transponder became damaged? Does your friend have any other key?

Yeah I can imagine. Does the way I describe it not turning over sound like a key fob thing?

No it sounds like the transponder inside the key case. The key fob only locks/unlocks the doors and trunk. If the battery for that dies you could still start the car.

The transponder is in the guts you lost. It will not start without it. It's a real shock when you find out what a new one costs when you don't have another to program a new one with.

Default Lost remote guts

I've been struggling with getting a spare key.

This is the problem you face. You need a master key. Without it, you cannot get the car into the programming mode, and that will take a dealers help.

And yes, it will be costly.
