I completely removed and cleaned the throttle body and the aluminum piece behind it that has the two butterfly valves in it. Both of these components were pretty clean before we started, but now both are squeaky clean.
Smoke test? I have never done a smoke test before. How would I go about doing that? Does this car have an EGR Valve? If so does anyone know where it is?

140K on the clock, I havent read the codes yet. I was about to check them when I found the threads talking about EGR and IACV so I got sidetracked. I know he has had an emissions code on and off for a while. I will read the codes and get back to you.

Had the same problem with our 2002 ES300 just yesterday. 141,500 Miles. Had disconnected Neg bat term to reset a code and it wouldn't idle after. Tried the recommendation of running it hard with AC on. No Diff. Disconnected bat again, took inlet air plumbing apart and cleaned the throttle plate and barrel. Blew out air cleaner. Put it all back together, reconnected bat works fine right now. Idle at about 650. Battery was disconnect for at least an hour. Curious to know what the humming is when you reconnect the battery.
