Carpet Grommets for Floor Mats
I have a 2002 ES 300. I have had two of the grommets in the carpet come loose. This makes it hard to affix the floor mat properly. I have fixed them both, but I was wondering how many others have had the same experience. It seems like a defect in design. The grommet is just not affixed very securely so if you fail to release the floor mat hook when you pull it up the grommet comes right out. It is not that easy to fix and I wonder how others have done it, too.
Just to be clear, I am talking about the grommet that hold the floor mat clip to the carpet. The grommets in the floor mats themselves are fine.

No need to thank me. I'm just really good at the internet.
This is normal, the mats are held in by plastic which is being pulled and tugged on with your feet.
When you buy a new set of floormats they come with an extra bag with 5 or so extras.

No, these do not have replacements
This is the grommet in the carpet, not the floor mat. Replacement grommets are not for sale and they would not be easy to install. Replacement clips are easy to find, but that is not the problem. If you just can't connect with what I am saying, unhook your floor mat and look down on the carpet. A new clip is not going to help if the grommet in the carpet is loose or missing.

Then take some pictures so we can know what you're talking about.

You'd have to remove the carpet from the car, and since its torn out some material from the carpet, you'd need to supply a bigger grommet for it to not come out again - now the carpet hooks won't work.
In short - no solution [i have one missing and it sucks] but not about to spend a full day ripping apart my interior to fix a grommet...

go to toyota dealer, ask for carpet grommet repair kit.....there is one available because during the floor mat recalls toyota created a repair kit for missing carpet clip grommets to keep peoples floor mats from coming loose since the clips always rip the grommets out of the floor carpet. i bet they still have a few in stock they would sell you or even give to you with new clips.

repair kit
It would be great if the dealer had such a kit. Good idea. I find it interesesting that this problem is common, annoying, and unsightly, but nobody has really worked out a great solution. I guess you just put the mat down and forget about it.
If you think about it, it is a pretty dumb way to secure the floor mat. You put a hole in the carpet and use a plastic grommet that cannot readily be replaced.
