Default aftermarket y pipe fitment issues

SO I hit a rock and pretty much crushed my y-pipe. I bought one here http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQ...mZ320735220279 and everything seemed great...but I am having fitment issues on the front flange and it is pissing me off. Does anyone else have fitment issues with aftermarket parts? BTW here is a pic of what I did to my old y pipe

Exhaust parts especially. Recently I helped a friend fix a 4 cylinder Camry, aftermarket Bosal flex pipe. It bolted up well enough, but the hanger was shaped wrong, and the diameter was too large to fit into the factory rubber piece. I had to grind it down, and heat it with a torch and bend it.

I don't see how there was any quality control with that part, if they had actually tried to install it on the car it was intended for, they would have found out what I did, it doesn't work.

@lexus, would you recommend taking it to a muffler shop and seeing if they can do some rigging, heat it up and try to adjust the flange?? Or do I just need to find a used OEM one? (which is a lot harder than one would think...)

I suppose it depends how much the flange is out, you won't be able to get much deformation out of that section I don't think. If you bought it locally, you could easily return it for another one, these parts can vary significantly from one to the next. Unfortunately that is not an option for you.

well the manufacturer does offer a 30 day money back guarantee, it is a hassle to go through. But I have started that process and I am just going to have to scour all if the salvage yards in southern nevada or even southern california. Car still runs(had to put the old pipe back on) but it kills my gas mileage

I would return it, you could modify it but there is a chance you'll ruin the part and then you lose everything. Don't feel bad, I am trying to repair a 1990 Camry V6 with a bad flex pipe, impossible to find exhaust parts for this car!

Worst case you could buy from one of the online Lexus dealers.
