Help: Front bumper removal
Hi everyone, Im new to CL. Im trying to remove my front license plate but the top right side screw wont screw off of the bumper. I think the washer on the inside of the bumper is spinning with the screw so i cant unscrew this without having access to the front bumper. Can someone give me a run down on how to remove the front bumper please. THank you!

On the 4ES you remove the screws and clips that secure the plastic lining on the front wheel wells and the underside. Next unscrew the screws that hold the front bumper to the car, found on each side of the front wheel wells. Then carefully pull the sides of the front bumper outward. Next, open the hood and remove all plastic clips that hold the grille plastic and the front bumper together. This should expose two more screws you have to remove. Once that is done, carefully pull the bumper straight off, using light pressure.

Go here: http://manualspace.com/toyota-lexus-...ice-manual.htm Download the service manual, the bumper removal procedure is in the 'body' section. Do a search in adobe reader for 'front bumper'. Are you sure you can't grab the nut at the back of the bumper with vice-grips?

The screw is loose behind the bumper im assuming, and is spinning with the screw in the front as i try to loosen it out. So I think the only way to get it out is to get to the back of the bumper. How do I get to the nut behind the bumper with the vice grips? Is there an easier alternative to taking out the screw without removing the bumper?

It's raining out right now, otherwise, I'd look closely and see if there is a way to access that nut from the back. My '93 es300 doesn't have a plastic shield across the bottom, so the back side of the bumper is readily visible. Meanwhile, you could try jamming the screw head with a screwdriver or whatever wedged in so it can't spin, from the front, then drill or grind the head off. If the nut is spinning with it, as you describe, the screw and nut can then be punched out easily, if it doesn't fall out anyway by itself. Of course, you will now have to address how to re-attach the plate, which may be a nut and bolt (now you need access to the backside anyway, with the bumper on), or more likely, a large sheetmetal screw.
