Default Taking in the CT

I'm taking in the CT this afternoon to see if they can find a REALLY obnoxious tapping noise in the dash. I first noticed it when the temperature dropped a week or 2 ago. As the temp continued to drop, it moved to the driver's side in addition to the passenger side. As it has warmed up again recently, it isn't nearly as bad, but is back to the passenger side only. It isn't your standard rattle. It sounds a lot like tapping on a windshield with key, or something metal. If you're old, you might remember that toy called Clackers. 2 ***** of resin on a string that would bounce together to make a loud annoying sound to drive parents nuts. It sounds a little like that. I've been through the glove box, and pushed and prodded the entire dash to see if there is any indication of something loose, to no avail. I think it might be in the engine compartment on the firewall, or something. Anyone have any suggestions about what I might tell them to look for?

Anyway, I'll take the car in this afternoon, and suggest they test drive it before it warms up tomorrow morning, to try and duplicate the noise. I fully expect them to tell me they couldn't and give up, but it's worth a shot. It seems like it ALWAYS takes at least 2 trips to convince them something is really wrong before they make an effort to find it.

This night sound crazy, but there are two rattles that plagued me earlier this yer. One is almost anything in the cup holders makes a rattling sound. Same goes for what you might have stored in the eye glass holder built into the ceiling. Good luck...I'm a freak about rattles..

Interesting input, that I brought up to the service writer! Although there is nothing in the cup holders, I do keep a utility tool and small flashlight in the center console. I hadn't thought to see if they were making the noise. And talk about crazy .... I didn't even know I had a eyeglass/sunglass holder in the overhead console! People on the 3rd Gen RX forum would be VERY jealous!

But, the noise is definitely in the dash on either the far right or far left side up by the windshield. I hope they find it, but I'm not confident as I think it may be to warm (29) to duplicate the noise. In the mean time, I have a 2014 ES Hybrid that's a really nice car and I work about 2 miles from the dealership, so there is very little inconvenience. They work pretty hard to make a service visit as pleasant as possible. While I was there dropping off my car, the President/GM of the dealership and the Service Manager both recognized me, and went out of their way to say hello and offer their assistance if needed or wanted. I love having a Lexus!
