Default Anybody ever have a defective clock spring? (steering wheel clicking noise)

I am taking my '15 CT200h F Sport to the Lexus dealer tomorrow to get it looked at. I have a clicky/crackling poppy noise coming from the steering wheel itself as I turn lock to lock. I'm nearly certain it's the clock spring.

I note Lexus has a revised part # for this: 8430776040

I still have some warranty left, thankfully. It's a $800 part!

update i did a little more careful investigating. it's not the clock spring but the steering wheel trim when touched in the right way, it crackles. so i have to remove the airbag and insulate the trim with felt tape. on my to do list. driving me nuts.

my 2016 IS which has the same steering wheel doesn't make any noise. they might have changed how the trim is installed.

Any update on your problem? I have a similar problem.

Also how did you open it up?

No issue on my '14 F-Sport, glad you found out about it.

It's the gray plastic trim on the steering wheel. not the clock spring. i will remove it one day and insulate it. just requires removal of the airbag first. a bit of a pain.

How did you determine this?

Do you know how to remove it or have any links? I think you need a tamper resistant Torx?

If you are going to reply here, do not PM me. I do not want the same messages twice. I determined the problem using my hands. You remove it the same way you remove any steering wheel on any car. Usually two springs that hold the airbags in released by a screwdriver. Google
