San Diego mechanic (The Mother thread)
I'm not advertising my mechanic, just reporting on a great place to get work done in San Diego. If you have a Lexus/Toyota, live in the San Diego area and are looking for a mechanic, try Toyota Lexus Care (TLC) on Raytheon in Kearny Mesa. I'm very impressed with their knowledge, attention to detail, and friendliness. My girlfriend takes her Toyota to a local dealer that is pretty good, but TLC is way better.

You know I heard of this place. My friend owns a 2000 Tundra V8 and hes been going there for the past 3 years for ALL his stuff. I haven't had the time yet but I gotta go in and get a quote and adjust the valves on my GS.
My friend said its next to some exhaust shop? Like their share buildings and the doors are right next to each other? Just trying to get a better perspective on where it's at.

Yes, it's next door to American Muffler, which I can also recommend. I've been there twice in the past 10 years or so, both times under different owners, and have had great service. The first owner passed it onto the second, his protoge. They charged me far less than the dealer or other mechanics quoted, and performed the work quickly and well.
TLC is located at 7845 Raytheon Road, San Diego. (858) 541-0852. There are two owners, but the main one who I always deal with is Jim. His wife also works there. They are very friendly. The mechanics are very knowledgable, and apparently own Lexus vehicles themselves.
Speaking of San Diego car care, I just had a set of leather seat covers, that I purchased through a group buy, installed by a guy just up the street from TLC. He did a great job. Front, back, arm/head rests, the whole kit, for $300. I can't remember his name off the top of my head, but TLC recommended him.

My mechanic works at the Shell Station off of the 5 and Del Mar Heights Rd. he is very trustworthy and a mechanic for over 30 yrs. He has helped me many a time, including my latest lexus pruchase. If you do decide to check him out, his name is John, good luck.

Any good and affordable mechanics in S.D?
As some of you guys know I just bought a 95 GS300 with 90k. I want to get the timing belt, fan belt, thermostat and water pump changed. Is there a good local mechanic for our cars in San diego who dosen't charge arm and a leg. I definetely don't wana to the stealership. The dealer that I bought the car from told me that he can get every thing changed for $350 but he is about 150 miles away from me and it will be a pain in the arss to drive down there. I need to get this done asap so please let me know. Oh yeah what about the parts? where can i buy the parts with good price? Any help will be highly appreciated. Thanks

Another question, now the dealer is asking for $450.00 for the parts and $1300.00 for the labor which honestly I can't afford right now. I know a guy who is willing to install all that for $500.00 but the catch is that the parts are after market, not genuine. Is it ok if I go with after market?
