Default Would bug stains in the clear coat constitute excessive wear and tear for leasing?

I leased a 2016 RX350 recently and took it long distance so many bugs got on it.

It has stained the clear coat and I am not able to fix it.

Would I have to pay money when I return the lease?

How lenient are they?

I don't see how anything relating to bugs hitting your car could be anything but normal wear and tear. I mean--it's unavoidable; it's like the textbook definition of normal wear unless you ran into Mothra.

I certainly hope so. I plan on going long distance again and no I don't plan on stopping at car washes along the way to get any bugs off. That would be too much hassle

Anyone with experience?

My only experience is that I've returned leased cars with rock chips on the bumper and/or hood (which are almost inevitable when driving on the highway) and have not been nicked for extra money. Those are also paint imperfections, so I wouldn't think spots in the clear coat would be any different. It is pretty much normal wear and tear.

LFS lease? Doubt they will charge for it.

LFS is very forgiving with excess wear and tear and when they do charge the amounts charged are usually laughably cheap.

Depends on how bad it is, I've had some luck with polish and a buffer, but sometimes that stuff isn't coming out. Usually if you keep a good coat of wax on the car and wash the bugs off BY HAND with soap, water, and a yellow sponge/scrubbie a few days after they get on there you are good to go. Its leaving the bug guts sitting on there for a week, 2 weeks, months, etc that you'll have problems. Also just visiting a car wash isn't going to cut it, you need to actually wash the car by hand and sometimes it takes some real elbow grease to get them off.

Tell us what you have done to try to remove the marks. Usually these things are fixable. We can help!

I always just spend the $100 bucks and get a full exterior and interior detailing. Removes all the minor scratches and marks. Also touch up what I can with touch up paint. Then again, I also returned an RX with a rock chip on the windshield and didnt get a bill lol.

Just bring your car to a detail shop before you return it and ask them to buff the front end and mirrors. Even a chitty detail shop should be able to do this pretty cheap.

refinishing the bumpers is pretty standard procedure used by CPO dealers before putting the car on the lot for sale.

Even cheaper and simpler would be some of this: (averages around $4 to 5). It does a good job of taking out surface scratches, smudges, paint discoloration, stains, etc.....from the top layer of clearcoat. But for deeper stuff, yes, you may need a body shop.
