How small is your parents car??
Room for a couple suitcases, I'm sure.
I drove across country and back in a 2 door Ford Esxort many moons ago.
If I can do that, you'll be fine hauling 2 suitcases to NY
Take your parents car, and don't stress.
Vacation is the last place you want to stress. If something does happen to your pride and joy, it'll be a long, miserable ride back home...

I wouldn't drive your car. You're going to worry about it, and why worry when you don't have to?
Think about it this way, once you get to NYC you don't need a car. You''re going to pay $65 plus tip to park at the hotel. $40 per day to park at the cruise terminal, assuming its a 7 day cruise thats $345 to park your car for the trip, call it $350 with tip. Even if you rented something really nice to drive down there and paid $200 a day, you're still only $50 behind. Well worth $50 to avoid damaging your car and to avoid the worry. Worth $50 to drive something bigger and more comfortable than your parents car too.

Do not give your car to the hotel valet or parking attendant. First, space is a premium in the city so they'll park your car very close to others, they don't care if there's damages because there's nothing you can do against them. Second, the parking attendants most likely will keep your windows down, so they can jump in and out easily (no space to even open doors). I wouldn't risk leaving the car window down for even an hour, the city has a lot of rats. I've heard stories of people having swirl marks on the hood because the attendants sit on while wearing pants with metal buttons.
If you plan to park on the streets, you should really get the bumper protectors. Drivers in the city think it's ok to bump cars while parallel parking.
I'd park long term at the airports and take the trains in!

That's the issue, in NYC you don't have any options when it comes to parking, the hotels usually are all valet and only valet. Hence why I would never drive my car to NYC. We take the train.

Good idea. The OP should leave the car at home in Montreal and take the bus to NYC.
