Any Volvo owners out there?
I have owned a Lexus RX for the past 12 years and it is a great, reliable car. Our family is growing and we are looking for a third row vehicle. We have put a deposit down for the new Volvo XC90, but, man, I am having doubts about not getting another lexus. If we purchase another Lexus, we are looking at the LX. I plan to keep this car a very long time. I do not know anything about Volvo or its reliability. I am on the swedespeed forum and there are issues out there on the new XC90. I know it may be a small representation of all XC 90's sold, but, it is making me doubt my decision. I would appreciate any input Volvo owners may have. I may post this in a few of the Lexus forums in hopes of getting a response.
Thank you

sorry I have nothing to add about the reliability of Volvo or the new XC90 but thought Id chime in to say that if I was in the market for a 3 row crossover, the XC90 would be my choice. Striking to look at from the outside, has real road presence, especially with those headlights and "T"shaped turn signals.

Looking at CR's Predicted Reliability for 3 Volvo models from their Owner Surveys recent reliability looks decent.
S60 Better Than Average, XC60 and XC70 both Average.

Any particular reason why you posted your original narrative and question four times in a row?
I haven't actually owned a Volvo, but as someone who has done a lot of reviews, have looked at and/or test-drove a number of them. They seem to be generally well-built and use good materials, though overall reliability, according to Consumer Reports, can vary quite a bit according to model and year. I generally like their solid body construction and thunk-solid doors. Their interiors tend to be rather unique in how they do their dashes, and are well-known for their light-color Birchwood trim-patterns (on the models that offer it). The thing that Volvo (and Mercedes) is probably most well-known for, though, is numerous safety-features, including a number that Volvo themselves pioneered. Newer models have tended to have a stiff ride, even with multi-adjustable suspensions in the comfort setting.
Though I myself don't believe in stereotypes, years ago, the brand had a reputation for appealing to schoolteachers, professors, librarians, nurses, older single women, safety-advocates, and generally to those on the left side of the political spectrum. That has changed somewhat with newer models, which, to an extent, have become more mainstream. Volvo does not have a strong presence in the American market, though, and their dealership network is not particularly widespread, if that is a potential issue with you. Their reputation as safety-mobiles helps keep their depreciation in check, though, even though they don't sell in large numbers or have high demand as new cars. The new XC-90, though, is attracting attention...as you, of course, have found out.

We have had an XC90 in our fleet for about a year now with no issues. Love the interior and overall ride and balance. The twincharged 4 cylinder has a good amount of power, but it wasn't quite as smooth as the new Q7 which uses a supercharged V6.

Never owned an XC90, but before we bought my wife her 2013 ES300h, her 3 previous vehicles were Volvos: 1992 850 (one of the best all around vehicles we ever owned), 2000 S80, and 2006 S80. We never had a significant issue.

Its a brand new model, if you are so concerned about it then you should wait a model-year or two. New Volvo's are usually fine, but as this is a brand-new-everything car.... Most reported problems I've seen are regarding software, but that gets updated quite frequently. Not many people if any on this forum have a new XC90 so its pretty much impossible to get a read. I owned a 2010 XC60, however, and it was completely bulletproof for what its worth.

A friend of mine has both a 2016 LX and an XC90 T8 Inscription. I haven't drive the Volvo yet but Just from sitting in it I can say that it is the most comfortable car on earth. The owner is extremely happy and loves both cars. Reliability wise we have to wait and see but it does come with a great warranty.
