Default Toyota May Be Tinkering With Giving Lexus Satellite Broadband

Toyota is working on satellite broadband connectivity for its vehicles. Of course, the roll-out of such game-changing technology would have to start with Lexus.

Hmm. Sort of skeptical about this. My grandpa told me nothing good would come of using corn for fuel....Who in darn tarnations thoought using corn as a food source for fuel would be smart eh?....
Now they invented cloud based info? Look at what happened to those martians! Look at their atmosphere now. Meh, no thanks.

Is that article really suggesting that satellite broadband is a cheaper alternative to just piggybacking off existing ground-based wireless networks? That's incredibly farfetched. The vast majority of the US is covered by so-called "4G" on at least one of the major networks, and a lot of the rest is on at least 3G. Most of the remaining deadspots are in the middle of nowhere, so irrelevant as far as where a Lexus vehicle might be.

it would be extra cool if they could do it... apperantly a lot of companies are going to launch low(er) flying broadband satellites, it is becoming a thing... so it would be a way for Lexus/Toyota to provide for global coverage for their customers, instead of doing the impossible and partnering with 70-80 carriers around the world.

Whoa. That would be a game changer. Was reading an article of how Wall Street was using "lasers" to make exceptionally fast trades. Forgot the details but it was mind bending fast.
I could see using these same low level SATs without have line of sight issues thus by passing 4G altogether an communications would be damn near instantaneous. Whoa.
