This would all make sense, only that Lexus has filed for the names of GS200t, RC200t and IS200t in the US. Therefore nobody knows what this "300" represents.
Im disappointed there is no "300t" filing.
Lexus needs to Bring back an inline 6 turbo!!!!!
BMW has great one and MB is coming out with inline 6 turbo very soon.

This turn of events has me scratching my head as well. The best thing I can come up with is maybe they are renaming the 2.0t option. If so, so much for the one year wonder NX200t.

This could easily be just a precautionary measure of extending/adding trademarks that will never see light of the day.
If they let IS300 expire someone could easily ****** it up and screw over Toyota for future use.

Considering that they just introduced RX200t 2 months ago, I dont think thats going to happen.
So this is weird.... 3.0l engine makes no sense as its numbers would not be very different from 2.0t when it comes to torque and we know that 2.0t is coming everywhere, especially to IS and RC.

If that is the case then its obvious IS300 will be 2.0t in US since there wont be 300h version there apparently, again most likely thanks to marketing geniuses who have some research in hand that says that it would not sell well in US.
Who knows.

Its highly unlikely that this is NA V6 or even more a inline 6 cyl. The later would require rebuilding of the chassi and engine compartment since this car was balanced and designed with a V6 and a 4 cyl, which has about the same geometrics in terms of lenght and placement over the front axle.
We do also know that Lexus is behind when it comes to turbo engines. But there is no way that they are developing a brand new NA 3.0 6 cyl in the year of 2016.This fills no purpose at all and it will be out-classed by exactly every other turbo 6 cyl out there, and maybe even turbo 4.

Lexus has been developing a 3.0 litre twin-turbo 6-cylinder as per UK sources and publicly confirmed by rayaans to me firsthand. This new 6-cylinder power plant will be offered in the next LS. If I remember, the 200t is not a twin-turbo, so that might explain the difference in naming. An "LS300" trademark may not be far behind either or possibly the twin-turbo 6-cylinder could be called "LS400". This "IS300" could also be naturally aspirated 3.0 litre intended to sit between the 200t and twin-turbo 6.

Good eye. Thought the front page would be interested too...

Maybe they are looking to the future and will rename all of their engines in US to model similar in BMW, where there is no t in the naming and numbers reflect "power" instead of displacement.

I like Lexus current naming strategy with t and h after the engine designation.
MB and BMW is just silly imo.
Except for its hybrid cars - Lexus has always used the # to correlate to the engine displacement so it would be big change for them.

We got word from our Lexus area product trainer a few months ago about this. IS, GS and RC will be available in 200t, 300 and 350 trim levels. They are trying to give us more engine options like BMW and Mercedes do. 200t's get a version of the NX's 2.0 turbo that makes roughly 245 hp. They did not mention torque output. The 300's are getting the same 3.5L v-6 we have now, but they have been "detuned" if you will. They will put out about as much hp as the 3.0 v-6 from the 2006 GS300, about 245hp. Why they wanted both the 200t's and the 300's to have roughly the same power output, I do not know. 350's in all models are staying where they are at. If I remember correctly the 200t's in all 3 models are going to be available as regular and F Sport versions but will be RWD only.
We did get word that the 2016 RX's are getting the D-4s injection added to the V6, so it will have 306hp like the GS and IS's do.
