Default U.S. 2016 Lexus IS300 and RC300?

I just read a post on my Facebook page from a Lexus dealer stating the IS300 and RC300 names were just registered in the U.S. Of course, going back to find the post yielded zero luck. So, I just thought I'd lay it out here in case it's not been posted.

Think it was first mentioned over on kaizen factor yesterday:

I'm not sure what this means. I don't think this will be a 100hp/L V6 Toyota engine. If so, how can it be a replacement for 3.5L they currently employ in many Lexus models?

i can imagine a hotter turbo 4 replacing the 2.5 and becoming the new 300.

that would make sense except that Lexus decided to call that model 200t.

So I have no idea what would 300 model mean... at all. Performance wise, it would be too close to 200t.

maybe Lexus changes their mind and want to get rid of the "t" altogether. BMW, MB don't have "T" on their turbo models.

Hopefully it's an all-new 3.0L V6 with all the latest and greatest engine technologies that pushes it above 100hp/L while remaining N/A. About time the decade-old V6 gets replaced.

That's highly probable too indeed. Even Audi no longer names their 4-cylinder turbo models 2.0 TFSI anymore, but "35" instead, in some countries at least.

Considering that they just introduced RX200t 2 months ago, I dont think thats going to happen.

So this is weird.... 3.0l engine makes no sense as its numbers would not be very different from 2.0t when it comes to torque and we know that 2.0t is coming everywhere, especially to IS and RC.

200t sounds 'worse' in some ways than 250, so maybe they're going with 300.

200t was only intro'd here of course on the nx. plus it might not be the same exact engine in an IS.

maybe for NA and AU they will rename 2.0t to 300... who knows really. BMW calls their engines differently in US and EU as in EU most buyers prefer lower naming since it alludes to less fuel consumption.

Over a month ago, a couple people in the IS forums have stated that the IS200t will be rwd only and IS300 will be awd.

Will have to find threads again. No clue if IS300 is an awd exclusive.

The Mercedes C-300 is a turbo 2 liter, the BMW 328 is a turbo 2 liter, so it makes some sense for the US market to rename the 200t to 300. The answer for the rest of the world is probably different, but for the US market, 200t is less than 300.

This would all make sense, only that Lexus has filed for the names of GS200t, RC200t and IS200t in the US. Therefore nobody knows what this "300" represents.

Im disappointed there is no "300t" filing.
Lexus needs to Bring back an inline 6 turbo!!!!!

BMW has great one and MB is coming out with inline 6 turbo very soon.

It should be pointed out this info came from a dealership, which we all know often gets things wrong. Although to say Lexus just filed for a trademark is a pretty heavy statement to make up. They could have also had a "t" in there, but the dealer my not have bothered typing it in. If someone has access to the site for US trademarks, maybe all of it can be verified. The whole thing could also be a hybrid, just w/o the "h."
