Volvo to introduce S60 Sedan Cross-Country version.
Remember the Subaru Outback SUS (Sport Utility Sedan)? It was the same, mechanically, as the Outback wagon (AWD, raised-suspension, body-cladding, etc.....) except using a Legacy 4-door sedan body instead of the much more popular wagon.
Well, Volvo, after recently introducing the V60 Cross-Country wagon (Hoovey2411 posted a thread on it).......... https://www.clublexus.com/forums/car...s-country.html..................is now also doing the same thing with the S60 sedan, the S60 Cross-Country. However, the Outback SUS did not sell well in the American market..........so only time will tell if Volvo's sedan version will either.
Here is the brief introduction from Road and Track magazine.

Oh man. Volvo just unveiled the S60 Cross Country, and it's brilliant.
Is there anything in the world more delicious than a lifted sedan? We think not. Take everything you love about the S60, including the solid all-wheel drive system, gorgeous interior, and distinctly Swedish styling, and then lift the whole thing 2.5 inches.
American buyers will find a 250-horsepower, turbocharged five-cylinder engine underhood. That's decent pep, but we can't wait to see what Polestar does with the thing.
The high-riding sedan segment has all but dried up in the face of the crossover onslaught. That's a damn shame. Cars like the late Subaru Outback SUS and it's high-riding ilk will always have a cozy place in our hearts.
Look for the S60 Cross Country to show up on order sheets by this summer. It makes its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show.

This appears to ride higher than the Outback sedan. The Outback sedan looked better because it wasn't obviously lifted. It was just raised enough to get you the ground clearance without looking like a custom job. Perhaps the S60 Cross Country will look better in real life than in the photos. In the second one above, it looks like an X4.

As you note, some people just want the extra ground clearance for deep snow, but don't want to be seen in a Mommy-Wagon (it's probably an image thing). Even so, Subaru's SUS still couldn't even make a dent in Outback wagon sales, so I'm not sure that this similar Volvo sedan design is going to be any more successful. On the other hand, the Volvo XC (Cross-Country) wagons have never been as popular as the Outback wagon, so the S60 XC, of course, at least, won't have the smothering effect from its own Volvo wagon competition that the Subaru SUS did.
