How big a boat are we talking about???
Reason I ask is that a tow vehicle isn't all about power. A bigger/beefier vehicle like the Sequia or Land Cruiser would be better if you're towing over 5000lbs IMO. More weight, heavier duty suspension, bigger brakes, a bigger truck pulling the same load is safer and easier to drive.
I see that you live in New York, where rust is a way of life. I don't know if between your options if the Land Cruiser, Sequoia, Lexus GX, or 4 Runner is more or less susceptible to rot. Something else to consider.

Get the last model year if the Toyota 4 runner with a V8. All bugs worked out and plenty of HP. I like to buy last gen auto before all the new changes take place.

First...these aren't truck. They're SUVs.
Boat size is going to be playing a huge roll in this. Just because you have the power to tug something....doesn't mean you should. You may need to move up to a full-size pickup.

Not sure what size boat but not too big. We have not decided on one yet. I thought of the larger SUV's because I am always trying to buy and transport parts for my Sc's but I think the 4runner would do. I have personal love for the LC so I'd love one but a newer V8 4runner may be a better deal on a newer, lower mileage vehicle and I like that. The 4Runner will be much easier to park in the city. The towing won't be often or far usually. We will just be 30 min away from where we dock it and won't pull it out of the water often. Still figuring it out though. Never had a boat but wifey wants one.
Thanks for the help!

Some of the things that I liked about first gen Sequoia were auto 4WD and more interior room. Also, Land Cruiser requires premium fuel while Sequoia does not .
OP should keep in mind that the 01-04 Sequoia/Tundra V8 engines were made in Japan, its the same exact factory engine.
Finally, the Sequoia uses a slightly more modern suspension double wishbone front/5 link rear while the Land Cruiser uses a torsion bar front/4 link rear.

I would agree, test drive both you can't go wrong with either. The Sequoia is larger and has a better rear door with sliding rear window.

My friend used to tow his boat with 2005 4runner V6, and after 1 year the transmission started giving up, and I think he also had problem with the rear differential too. So make sure you get the V8 4runner. But in his case, he bought a 2005 Sequoia.
FYI, 2005+ Sequoia has updated 4.7 which pumps out 295HP and has 5 speed tranny, which is what I had before. The truck drives much faster and swift compare with pre 2005 ones.

I also forgot to mention that the Sequoia also 5 more horsepower.
If the two were priced the same, I would get the Land Cruiser but I also like the smaller size of the Land Cruiser. We used to own an LX470 and for us we found the size to be just right. The LX450 that we are babysitting is also a really nice sized vehicle.
