A Sport Touring trim of a huge full sized FWD car without any sportiness whatsoever.

Nice package! Sporty and still classy.
Agreed, never warmed up to the fishmouth grille. It's downright ungainly and brings down the whole look.

If you are talking about past luxocruiser Avalons (which generally ride pretty softly and comfortably by today's standards), then no, there isn't much sportiness. But the 2014 and later Avalons, even in base-trim level, while not Mitsubishi Evo or Honda S2000-harsh, are significantly more firm and "sport" in their rides......also, IMO, in general, less solidly-built, though the powertrain is still excellent.

Something riding more firmly doesn't mean its sporty. The new Avalons do ride more firmly, but they still aren't sporty at all. All the weight is in the front, plowing understeer. They feel heavy and don't reward when driving hard or make you want to drive them hard in any way. To me a "Sport Touring" trim of this car is silly.

I think it's fine, new package to bring some visual pop with new alloy wheel design, and a way to get HID's without popping for the "Limited" trim.
They should've have done more monochrome on the outside like the Camry "SE" and now "XSE" it would have helped create a more unique look.

Not to get too deeply into stereotypes, but my guess is that most of those 2500 customers will be AARP members or others who simply see the name (Avalon) on the trunk lid, don't bother to check out what they are actually getting underneath (I've seen that happen before with some SE Nissan models), sign on the dotted line, take them home, and then drive them around just like they would any other Avalon (in other words, like a Buick Lacrosse). And the dealership will like it because they profit a little more on special trim-packages and versions like that.
