Insurance screwed me on my 3IS!! HELP!

I agree. $6K is just crazy. OP didn't say how bad his driving record is but perhaps he has a few DUI's and a couple of street racing tickets or something. Even though I had a habit of speeding and got 3 speeding tickets within 6 months, my insurance is about $1400 per year for two cars and that includes full coverage on an NSX. $6K a year is more like Ferrari/Lamborghini insurance.

I wonder what you have to do to hit $6k....tip a cruise ship over?

Differs by state. Some states require proof of insurance to renew tags. Some states just give the driver a ticket with nominal fine if no insurance, so nothing really happens until 3rd or 4th ticket.

I believe in Utah, they imound your car on the first go. I had a friend who had his car impounded for driving without insurance, and it was his first time that it happened.

They can also take your license as well. Then you have to carry SR22 from an insurance company to ever drive again.
