Toyota To Show Refreshed 2015 Camry In New York

Great thread.
Big grills are weak attempts by designers to give a car its identity. Who CAN'T slap a HUGE GRILL on a car with a HUGE BADGE and say "that is our car".
Its pathetic. It also shows the TREMENDOUS influence SUV design has on cars, which is making cars pretty damn ugly.
I said this 5 years ago. I noticed that luxury cars were losing the grill being intergrated into the hood. I started a thread on it. Luxury car makers went this cheap route, with the grill part of the lower plastic bumper. Even Lexus does it. Its cheap.
These huge grills are ridiculous. No different then these guys with gold or diamond or platinum teeth or people with huge chains. Its gawdy and will get OLD QUICK.
It even looks more ridiculous on small cars and cars with no performance. Big grills do provide more air to an engine. But if you got 150hp, what the hell is the point?

So did my signature.
If I were you I would tread lightly. I also didn't like Bangle designs and now I think he is genius.
In 2007 you were nowhere to be found as Hyundai was not the brand it is today.

That said, if I pulled stuff that I posted back in 2007...

There is no need to lock the thread.
The Camry will never please enthusiasts. And this is an enthusiasts' forum.
I believe that we can all discuss the Camry in a very objective manner.
But I do caution people to be very careful of their subjective opinions. For example, some have claimed "My opinion is a fact." Don't make us laugh...

I'm not saying they're the same car with that picture. Pointing out specifically, the shape of the spindle / hourglass grill on both cars that is alike and asking why it's being pulled from the Lexus playbook instead of coming up with a look that is more in line with what Toyota did for Avalon, Highlander and Corolla.

Lexus Test Driver
Saw the new Camry in the flesh today!!!!!!!! It was a silver XLE just as in the pictures above and this thing looks SMOOOOOOOOTH in person. It has quite a bit of flair to it with the rounded shape. Although it has literally lost a bit of its edginess, I don't think we have anything to be worried about.
As mentioned before, I think this refresh would have looked better with a revised roofline as well, but that's not feasible without revising the entire frame.
Although interior obviously looks largely the same, material quality is indeed IMPROVED.

Back in 2007, IS and GS were fresh designs and they looked awesome. They didnt have big grilles and they were better for it... today they look old and stale.
Things change.
Back in 2007, everyone thought that 4cly turbos were crap and everyone wanted V8's....

i just wanted to see if there was any design break downs on this trend. and clublexus thread was #1. lol i find it hilarious.
i remember reading robert cumberford's design analysis while back and he too was put off by it. bottom line, i'm just not a major fan of in-your-face design. it works on some audis. works on RC F. but i just don't think this is suitable for a family sedan.
