Probably not, but who's going to pull them over?

WTF is wrong with them???? Taking pictures to flaunt and your wheels aren't clean. Get some westley's bleach white on those vogue tires, f'king ridiculous to be rolling around in $250,000 worth of Roller and not have it properly detailed.

BTW, I do love the wire wheels, but this ***** is ridiculous. My old hooptie on factory wires.

1984 Eldorado with correct factory wire wheels

Yes, there have been several instances of people being carjacked and shot to death on Houston's streets for a old car with these '84's. It's obvious that there are some folks who will stop at nothing to "own" the very latest style. That is, of course, until they're 'jacked too.

Looks like a good reason to stick with those plastic wheel covers from Pep Boys . . .

Some die for their desired sneakers or coat so yes, killing for wheels is no surprise to me.

No offense, Bob, but even if those wheel covers are still being sold in the underground market or on places like E-Bay, they (may) be illegal under Federal law.....though I'm not sure if they can legally be sold aftermarket or not. Back in the 1960s, Ralph Nader got Congress to outlaw projecting spinner-covers on new cars (the same legislation, I think, that set up the NHTSA, made seat belts/shoulder harnesses standard, mandated padded-dashes, and got rid of sharp-surfaced controls/handles inside of the cars). That's why you haven't seen them come from the factory on American-market cars for almost 50 years....though recent Mustangs have more or less imitated them in a safer, non-projecting manner.

Local sources say those "elbows" are not legal, but they are kind of a badge of membership in one gang or another. Carjackings have gotten so common that owners of these rims routinely ride strapped - to defend their rims against all comers. Cops know this and usually let them pass . . . I suspect some sort of social cleansing of the gene pool here, where gang-bangers perform their own "cleanup operations" where rivals are shot to death on the streets. Saves the cops a lot of paperwork, they say, so they turn a blind eye on it.

Now, if it's near the end of the shift and a cop is feeling his disciplinarian tank running low, before he punches out for the night, all he needs to do is pull over one of these "swangers" because he knows with a great deal of certainty that there is at least ONE handgun on board . . . for "self-defense" purposes, you understand.
