Learned nothing from the 318i variants from '93 - '96 or so. Performance of the "economy" bimmer very nearly took BMW out of the market here in the US.

They did learn something. Instead of giving it a completely crappy motor, they gave it the same motor as the 328i. It's just detuned. Furthermore, you're free to option up a 320i as much as you want.
