The BMW marketing machine is a very powerful force.

I am stunned when they saddle us with an X1 or base 3-series that people will pay the kind of money they do for what are cheap cars.

Edit: We already have this car up here and it's $45K...lol.

"Almost same" fuel economy is not even close, it looks hideous and makes me want to vomit whenever I see one (the 300), I prefer smaller and more nimble cars, and I doubt the 300 will drive nearly as well or be as engaging to drive as the 3ers can be. If I really wanted a Charger or 300 I'd go straight to the HEMI V8 or SRT models.

It doesn't matter how well it drives or what it has, if you have to pay 33k (and witth TTL), that's overpriced. The current 3 series is overpriced as it is.
Its over priced to people that like to complain on the internet. It will sell well. Value is interpreted differently. Some people see value as a car with NAV standard in a larger size and don't value RWD, image, leather, etc etc. Some people value image, RWD, a styling interior, ability to modify.

That is why cars are different at the same price point, people's values are different. BMW clearly knows what they are doing and with the 328 and 335 going up in price, this is another option for them to get customers in the door.

It gets practically the same mileage as the 328i. A 320d or 335d would easily be a fuel mileage leader and turn heads. Maybe that's still coming?
For a long time Euro mags have speculated that car makers subsidize cost of diesel engines, so they are not bringing them probably because they would be too expensive to sell profitably.

I had a 3rd gen RAV4 as you know, so obviously I'm not a stickler for interior quality. There are some trim styles on the new F30 that are godawful that I'd be sure to avoid when I checked them out in person (BMW Team USA drive event), but otherwise it's good enough for me.

New generation 2.0L and 3.0L BMW diesels have already been confirmed for the U.S. The only things that aren't known are which models and when, along with final specs on the engines.

19/31 MPG from a full-sized vehicle with 292 horsepower versus 23/33 MPG from a compact vehicle with 180 horsepower. The later doesn't seem as impressive.

Agreed.

I've always said that I would buy a fully loaded Camry/Accord over a base, entry level BMW as you simply get much more car for your dollar.

Isn't that what the IS250 is?

At any rate, this has the same N20 engine as the 328i. With ROM flash, this car could become teh tuner's dream.

Have you been in an F30? It's not a compact vehicle by any means.

With over 100hp more, the Charger V6 only did a 0-60 in 6.7s (C&D), hardly beating out this lowly 180hp Bimmer. That doesn't seem too impressive either. JB tuner for a few hundred bucks and the Charger will get killed.

No. IS 250 vs 328. IS 350 vs 335 IS F vs M3

So 320 vs IS? No option here....

Speaking of RWD, another thousand dollars puts you in to a Hyundai Genesis. It even comes with real leather seats unlike the vinyl-equipped Bimmer.
