2014 Audi SQ5 to debut in Detroit
http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...auto-show.html
Audi just announced that it will showcase its 2014 SQ5 performance SUV to the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Last year the brand brought a diesel-powered version of the SQ5 to the Paris Motor Show, but that car wasn’t bound for the U.S. Now, the four-ring brand is swapping the diesel engine for a supercharged 3.0-liter unit with 354 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque powering all four wheels via the brand’s Quattro all-wheel drive system and an eight-speed automatic. All that will be good enough to propel the car from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.3 seconds, although that speed is capped at a 155-mph maximum.
Of course, Audi did more than just drop a more potent engine under the hood with fingers crossed. The car is also 30 millimeters lower with a stiffer suspension and 20-inch wheels. Audi didn’t include information about brakes fitted to the SQ5, but it’s safe to assume they will also be upgraded.
Just like other “S” cars, the SQ5 will also have an optional dynamic steering system which allows the driver to pick from several predetermined settings for steering feel and throttle response. The system also allows for full customization in and “individual” setting as well.
Less than notorious for over-the-top appearance packages, Audi will offer a list of subtle exterior features to distinguish the car. Those will include a platinum gray radiator grille, unique bumpers, a roof spoiler and aluminum look mirror caps among others.
Similarly, the interior will get special touches with Nappa leather and Alcantara appointments both included as standard features in the cabin.

Both engines for this QS5 (i.e. the 3.0 TDI twin-turbo as well as the 3.0 TFSI Petrol/Gasoline) are superb indeed.
HOWEVER
In a spec-per-spec comparison, here's a breakdown (using Audi official specifications and measurements)
GASOLINE/PETROL (3.0 TFSI)
Power output: 354 HP (260 kW) @ 6000-6500 RPM
Max Torque: 470 Nm (346.65 lb-ft) @ 4000-4500 RPM
Acceleration 0-100 Km/h (or 0-62 mph): 5.3 seconds
Fuel economy (NEDC fuel test cycle): 8.5 liters per 100 kilometers (21 US MPG)
DIESEL (3.0 TDI TWIN TURBO)
Power Output: 313 HP (230 kW) @ 3900-4500 RPM
Max Torque: 650 Nm (479.42 lb-ft) @ 1450-2800 RPM
Acceleration 0-100 Km/h (or 0-62 mph): 5.1 seconds
Fuel economy (NEDC fuel test cycle): 7.2 liters per 100 kilometers (32.67 US MPG)

It seems like the victor is clear. In an overall sense, for the SQ5, the twin-turbo diesel version is more superior.
Now again, don't get me wrong, both engines are superb and you can't go wrong with either. However, if I were to choose between the two, I would definitely pick the twin turbo diesel version for the SQ5
=)

Interesting. At first, my initial reaction was that it probably wouldn't sell much. But, considering that Mercedes passed up the opportunity to put a true AMG powerplant in its competing GLK (selling it with an chassis-based AMG sports-package instead), and BMW not doing a true M-spec X3, Audi may just pick up some of those potential customers. It is also no secret that both Mercedes and BMW are losing customers to Audi in general.
