If BMW can introduce a a fund to drive coupe at $26-28K, they'll bring on board a lot of enthusiasts. Going further down market wouldn't be such a bad thing it it opens the door for future BMW drivers.

Someone fill me in on this:
What is going to happen to the 1 when the 2 hits the market? Will they bring the 1 hatchback stateside or will they just axe it all together?
Was gonna research, but im too lazy.
P.S. correct me if im wrong, but the 1 never had a sedan version as of 2013 right?

Mm, i just did some looking into and it looks like the 1 never had a sedan. Only hatch.
If BMW makes a 1 sedan, it will look like a wedge of cheese... There is only so much you can do with a limited amount of packaging. Unless they "CLA" style it.

Someone can correct me if im wrong, but the 1 is either a hatchback/coupe as of the 2012 model. When the 2 comes out the 1 will only be a hatchback and the 2 will be the new 1 coupe.
Not sure if the will be a 1 sedan, as that thing would look awfully chunky.

As BMW prepares to introduce the all-new 2 Series coupe and convertible, the 1 Series name definitely won't be going away. We know new sedan and hatchback models are in the works; including the GT shown above. According to Car and Driver, though, the future of the 1 Series nameplate in the US could be dependent on rival premium small cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class and Audi A3.
In an interview with C/D, BMW's North American head of product planning and strategy, Paul Ferraiolo, said that pricing might be the biggest deterrent to offering the third-gen 1 Series in the US. As he points out, BMW currently prices the 1 not too far from the 3 Series, but Mercedes-Benz and Audi will have their new small cars priced well below the $30,000 mark. BMW's Mini brand will also factor into the consideration since the 1 GT will share its underpinnings with the next-gen Cooper lineup.
