• Audi reports 16th consecutive month of record sales, marking the fourth-best month ever in U.S. for the brand
• April new vehicle sales up 15% to 11,521 vehicles sold in the U.S.
• Premium category vehicle sales (A8, A7, A6, and Q7) up 52% in April

Audi today reported record-setting April sales with a 15% increase to 11,521 new vehicles sold, marking the 16th consecutive month of record sales in the U.S. April sales also marked the fourth-best month ever for the brand and set the all-time sales record for the month of April.

“Audi’s progressive luxury positioning in the market clearly speaks to discerning consumers as they are seeking out the most technologically advanced vehicles in the market,”

Sales for the design-forward Audi A7 were up 91.2% from April 2011 results when the all-new model debuted. Audi luxury SUV performance was led by an increase in sales of the Audi Q5, with a 24.5% jump in April, and a 17.4% year-to-date gain. The Audi Q7 also performed favorably with an increase of 12.3% for the month as inventories remained lean.

VW, Audi, Hyundai, Kia, Benz continue to do extremely well.

I think the JX has already cannibalized Infiniti sales. They sold more SUVs than cars last month and the G and especially M were down. The M is barely 2 years old and has been a disaster, not even 500 units last month.

Accord's strong sales were due to the crazy incentives/deals this past month to clear out the old models. Honda rarely gives out crazy incentives like this, but it's obvious b/c the Accord hasn't seen 30k+ sales/month in a long time.

Surprised they didn't start sooner b/c the Altima had been giving out crazy discounts since LAST YEAR. which give Nissan a ton of publicity the past few months.

Yup still a beautiful car; has aged very well. I still see some new models popping here and there here in OC.

Arrow Incentives

Incentive spending on new car sales in April hit its lowest level in almost 7 years, says Edmunds.com, the premier online resource for automotive information. Edmunds.com reports that the average True Cost of Incentives® (TCISM) per vehicle in April was $2,071, the lowest average spend since automakers spent an average of $1,962 in October 2005. April's average TCISM is down 2.2% from March, and down 1.8% from April of last year.

"This is the clearest indication yet that consumer motivation is high and that automakers feel little pressure to rely on incentives in order to keep sales churning," said Edmunds.com Senior Analyst Jessica Caldwell. "We'll likely see incentives linger at these low levels until auto sales ease off the torrid pace we've seen so far in 2012."
PHP Code:
Average True Cost of Incentives® (TCISMby Car Manufacturer
Manufacturer     12
-Apr     12-Mar     11-Apr     Apr 2012 vs Mar 2012     Apr 2012 vs Apr 2011
Chrysler
$2,495     $2,486     $2,401     0.4%     3.9%
Ford     $2,360     $2,701     $2,341     -12.6%     0.8%
GM     $3,446     $3,258     $3,015     5.8%     14.3%
Honda     $992     $991     $1,679     0.1%     -40.9%
Nissan     $2,136     $2,455     $1,836     -13.0%     16.3%
Toyota     $1,388     $1,371     $1,730     1.2%     -19.8%
Industry     $2,071     $2,118     $2,109     -2.2%     -1.8
The most notable shift in spending among the Big 6 automakers came from Nissan, whose spending fell 13.0% month over month and even as it rose 16.3% year over year. Ford was the only other major manufacturer to drop its incentive spending in April. Its average TCISM per vehicle fell 12.6% month to month, but ticked up 0.8% year over year.

Even as gas prices started to decline in April, car buyers still found some of the best April deals in less fuel-efficient segments. The large car segment, for example, offered the highest discounts, on average, at 13.2% off MSRP, which was up from 12.2% off MSRP in March. Dealers, however, kept a tighter incentives grip on smaller fuel-efficient vehicles. The discount on subcompact vehicles was 2.2% off MSRP in April ? down from an average of 2.5% in March. And the discount off compact cars in April fell to 4.5% off MSRP in April, down from 5.2% in March.

Shoppers can always find the vehicles with the most compelling deals on Edmunds.com's True Market Value® Deals of the Month page.

Edmunds.com's monthly True Cost of Incentives® (TCISM) report takes into account all automakers' various U.S. incentives programs, including subvented interest rates and lease programs, as well as cash rebates to consumers and dealers. To ensure the greatest possible accuracy, Edmunds.com bases its calculations on sales volume, including the mix of vehicle makes and models for each month, as well as on the proportion of vehicles for which each type of incentive was used.

Way to spin negative on a sales boost.

What sales boost? Moving from 6,700 units to 7,100 units is hardly a bump and still near the rear of the luxury pack. The fact is their fourth SUV the JX did well but sales were down mostly on everything else and I can't help but think "logic" set in for Infiniti fans and they chose the 40-50k JX over their own G/EX/FX/M. The M is a disaster, there is no getting around it much like many of us said when it debuted and fanboys came in sales threads arguing left and right. It is barely 2 years old and sales are in back of the pack. The new G cannot come fast enough.

No argument regarding the M. But it's irrelevant to my point which is that the JX is off to a successful start and sales are up because of it. At the end of the day a sale is a sale whether it's an SUV, a hybrid, or whatever. And anytime your units increase that's a sales boost whether it's 2% or 20%.

He's just stating the facts whether negative or positive. Infiniti has more SUV's than sedans/coupe. Infiniti is just not as diverse as Lexus is with it's many model choices.

On another note. YTD for Lexus vehicles sold compared to BMW:

2012 YTD (January - April)

Lexus 66,647
BMW 82,611
