Post Nissan stretches Fuga in China, brings back Cima name

LWB mid size cars sell well in China, makes sense to try to help this model sell. Lexus GS engineers were asked recently about stretching the GS and they seem very against it since they stated it would change the way the car drives.

In the past the CIMA was the Q45 the past two generations. The nameplate now moves to the Fuga b/c the wheelbase is stretched. Front end is also different and I see a chrome strip at the bottom of the doors. Also seems its hybrid only, no V-8.

Nissan Releases All-New Cima

YOKOHAMA, Japan (April 25, 2012) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced the launch of the new Nissan Cima, which goes on sale May 21st at Nissan dealers nationwide in Japan.

The key features of the new Cima are:
Styling expressing a premium class image characteristic of Cima
Hybrid system with optimally balanced driving and environmental performance
Spacious and comfortable rear seats
Since the debut of the first-generation model, Cima has enjoyed support and high acclaim from customers for its excellent driving performance, advanced equipment and leading-edge technology. The new 5th generation Cima continues the exhilarating driving experience that is the DNA of successive Cima models, combining superior engine performance with superior environmental performance, while also delivering high levels of comfort and safety.

The new exterior design expresses the premium class image characteristics of Cima, with its strong presence provided by a large grille and bumper, long wheelbase of over 3 meters and flowing side view.

With Nissan's original one-motor two-clutch parallel hybrid "Intelligent Dual Clutch Control" system, best-in-class fuel economy and strong acceleration performance are optimally balanced.

Excellent ride comfort and quietness are realized by the newly refined comfort suspension, sound-absorbing tires (adopted for the first time for Nissan vehicles) and Active Noise Control, which has been adjusted to focus on the rear passenger compartment. Furthermore, first-class hospitality is offered in the rear seats, with best-in-class knee room and a range of comfort equipment including a 7-inch wide display integrated with the front seat headrest, overhead reading light, vanity mirror and sunshade.

In manufacturing the vehicle, each part is elaborately made by Takumi, or "master with greatest skills," in each of the paint, trim and inspection processes in pursuit of the highest quality.

The new Cima achieves both a 20% improvement in fuel economy over 2015 standards and SU-LEV certification, emitting 75% fewer exhaust emissions than 2005 standards. This also qualifies for preferential tax breaks under the Japanese "tax system to promote the diffusion of environmentally friendly vehicles" as next generation automobiles*1, thereby fully exempting it from the automobile acquisition tax and automobile weight tax.

Based on the two-pillar strategy "zero emissions" and PURE DRIVE*2, Nissan has been working on reducing CO2 emissions. The new Cima is one of the PURE DRIVE vehicles equipped with Nissan's original hybrid system.

<Overview of the New Cima>

4. Product Quality Efforts
Paint Process
Darker body colors require glossier finishes. To achieve a clearer gloss, experienced paint takumi polishes each body surface individually by hand in a special room off of the production line after the surface coating is finished, in addition to the conventional paint process. Then the top coat is applied for a beautiful, gloss finish.

Special Inspection Process
At the end of the inspection process, a specially qualified, experienced inspector carefully conducts a quality inspection on every vehicle. A close check is conducted using both tactile assessment and digital measuring instruments.

Test Driving Process
An experienced test driver in the driver's seat and an experienced inspector in the rear seat conduct an inspection on the test course, recreating various driving conditions. Every vehicle is closely inspected by dynamic evaluation for driving and handling, designed to pick up any potential faint squeak or rattle in the cabin.

Quality Inspection Confirmation
After all quality inspections are completed, quality inspection confirmation for the new Cima, with the signature of Tochigi Plant Manager, is loaded on each vehicle.

Read about a Fuga "L" a few months ago slated for the Chinese market. Guess this is it. Hybrid only huh. I don't think an "L" will help this car :/

I like it! Stretching it out makes it less bulbous and the redesigned front makes looks a lot more luxurious. The back is still average. Interesting that they would release it as a Nissan in China when Infiniti is already in China, correct me if I'm wrong.

The front end is an improvement. Hopefully we'll see that in the Infiniti M soon. But for me a redesign of the M can't come soon enough. They really botched this generation both in styling and execution.

I highly doubt it and hope not. The way it sells here, I can't imagine any reason to add an "L" version to a failing line. The Q replacement would have to be something bigger and better IMO. Something that makes people question why they got a 7, S etc..

The problem is that Infiniti doesn't have anything to go head-to-head against the Lexus LS460 (hasn't had one for several years), though the M56 certainly has the engine power. But the M is just too small, IMO, as a true flagship. Cadillac, Lincoln, and Buick are also making the same mistake by dumping all of their largest cars, too.

And even if a stretched-M was introduced here as an LS-fighter, they would, IMO, have to soften up the chassis some. The current LS460, though not as pillow-soft as in previous models, nevertheless rides far more comfortably than any Infiniti M to date.

I do like the front end better.

However I got confused. This is the Japanese market Fuga stretched to a CIma not for China where it is the Infiniiti M. So the title is wrong, its for Japan.
