So is the squarish dashboard the new interior design language of Toyota SUVs/CUVs? I am not sure how I feel about the new square shape, but one thing – at first impression – that is not particularly impressive to me is the open hole where the upper glovebox would be. And what are those long slits that sit above the audio system head unit?

The exterior shape of this new RAV4 is similar to the new Auris, especially at the rear, which is not a bad thing (it looks better than the new Honda CR-V, IMO). I want to see it and the new Highlander too, if that model is coming out soon. I will be in the market again in just over a year’s time and either the RAV4 or the Highlander (Hybrid models, preferably) could be on my list.

Over a year ago, Motor Trend got the concept rendering almost perfect!

For a CUV I think it looks great. Let's hope that Lexus does as good a styling job on their version.

In August, carscoop had a near-perfect rendering. Right down to the wheels. The only difference is a tweak in the front bumper.

Looks nice. Will sell very well. But in terms of design it lands squarely in the middle of a bunch of already nicer looking mini-utes.

i think it looks great, as to the competition - RAV4 invented the cute-ute business and everyone copied it.

they had those kits in europe... they were nice, with air compressors integrated as well. When they removed spare tire at the back, the car was not designed to have spare tire anywhere else so at first they offered run flats but since they sucked, they offered normal tires with these OEM repair kits.

but plenty of Toyota vans and SUVs have a spare tire hanging under the trunk (outside), so I dont see why would Rav4 be different.

ok, so I got high res and video from my buddies at Toyota Europe...

- RXSF that opening on the dash is vents... there is even an **** in there to open/close like on other vents
- There is nice leather wrap going around the dash. Like in Avalon.
- Premium models will have big nav, all models with have display audio 6.1" with camera and other things.
- Finally all colors are the same, and most if not all buttons are now backlighted in the car.
- There is an LCD clock above the nav, of course.
- Rear doors seem to auto close like in RX. They open UP.
- Xenons and LED DRL.
- I dont see rear seats or rear cupholders which usually giveaway rear seats in Toyota.
- Mirror turn signal looks nice like in Lexus, with LEDs, not usual toyota drab.
- there is strong character line going on the side of the car... very very strong line... not noticable in these pics but seen in the video.

Exterior looks great, interior looks good... in fact, interior is probably better than interior - but it doesnt have pizzaz you expect from European top end Toyota. There is a lot of leather and that wrap around on the dash has a lot of leather but there are no huge features... There is a big nav that looks quite large and there is usual luxury features for Euro toyota but i would expect more like panoramic roof, HUD, etc. and this was probably top end diesel with automatic model shown... instruments are pretty plain with small trip computer for instance, which doesnt make sense considering how much extra it has.

so maybe they are saving some extra tech for hybrid model eventually (no hybrid shown for sure, it would be in Euro video). Quite possibly they are reserving some stuff for the Hybrid model OR for Lexus model. Of course, I am being very picky, as it has 98% of the luxuries of RX, including rear doors closing :-)
