Default Discount Tire crushes Tire Rack Price

1SICKLEX strongly vouched for Discount Tire's service and price matching program, and a couple of others mentioned that they price match any price on the internet.

So I decided to give them a shot ordering Michelin Pilot Super Sports for my new 550i.

Instead of ordering through the local Discount Tire Store (which has to charge tax on the tires), I called Discount Tire Direct. Discount Tire Direct is a sister company of Discount Tire that sells online. Because they are a separate company they don't charge sales tax on tires, whereas if I bought from their local store they would charge 7% sales tax.

Discount Tire Price $1080 (after $70 visa rebate card and price matching to discount wheel warehouse)
Tire Rack Price $1520 (after $70 visa rebate card)

So Tire Rack was $440 or 41% more expensive.

I've been a loyal customer of Tire Rack and bought about 7 sets of tires for them in the past 10 years. This marked the break-point. There is only so much of a premium they can command.

My Dad was buying new tires for his car this week and he also made the switch to Discount Tire.

I've bought from Discount Tire in the past and have had good experiences with them as well? Doesn't hurt that they have a store in the shopping center right by my house. Lately though I've been buying my tires from Belle Tire. Usually they have been the cheapest around my area, although I haven't tried get them to price match with Discount Wheel Warehouse. But their service is definitely top notch. Every purchase from them gives you free lifetime rotations, balancing, alignment checks, flat repairs, and a 36mth prorated hazard warranty. You get a lot for the money.

I've tried searching to see if Discount Tire offers anything similar with their purchases, but I can't find anything off their site.

Just make sure they are not expired or factory defects.

What size of tires did you order? I bought mine from tirerack for slightly under $1000(after the $70 rebate) three months ago or so. Mine are 225/40-18 and 255/40-18.

when I had a recent issue with my Vossen wheels and I took the cart to the "high end " shop they totally misdiagnosed the issue and screwed me into buying a new set of tires before I needed to whereas DT diagnosed the issue quickly and accurately . I have been dealing with them for 9 years now and have always been happy. I have learned that in the end the wheel specialists in Tempe AZ really are not as good as they think they are. Discount tire is more convenient, provide better service, and will not rip you off.

Yeah i use Discount Tire also for a variety of reasons!

They offer free repairs on repairable tire damage, if you get the road hazzard warranty getting a replacement in the event of bad tire damage is almost effortless, free balancing & rotations for the life of the tires at ANY location, and they price match most websites. Almost all the tires bought in my family have been from DT for those reasons

I've been happy DT customer for over 15 years. They've always had the lowest prices, most convenient locations, and get the least amount of grease on the steering wheel.

I like DT (6 sets or so) in 12 years because the service is excellent in my area and the prices aren't too bad. Tire rack is great for reviews and comparison shopping only because shipping and mounting/balancing (higher rates when you don't buy tires at the shops) kills the deals although I always consider them. The place i no longer consider for tires is Costco, they won't mount 20's for me and the wait is usually longer than most other tire shops.

For being a loyal DT customer, I've been offered Road Hazard insurance for half price and was able to exchange tires without penalty even though I "special ordered " a set.
