Default Toyota's new global design boss vows to ban the bland!

Quote:
In the future, he says, the styling of Toyota-badged vehicles will be more aggressive, reflecting the more emotional approach being called for by Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda.

In charge of the design metamorphosis is Dezi Nagaya, a veteran Toyota designer who dresses like he's on his way to a trendy Shibuya nightclub rather than off to work at Toyota.

"Toyota has been criticized for being quiet and nonoffensive, of having too friendly an image while lacking emotion," Nagaya said during an interview at the auto show here.

I thought he was like in his 40s. Hopefully, he will bring back the emotional design with Japanese influence because it's Japanese.

Creativity!

His hair is the perfect metaphor. What lies on the outside stands out, brash, not plain.

On the inside, i'm sure it's reliable

Ok.....bad metaphor, so sue me.

How does a guy have a job with a haircut like that? I know you're not supposed to judge people based on appearances alone, but damn that's the worst comb forward I've ever seen.

Haven't we already heard the, "we are going to get rid of the bland" thing several times previously from Toyota? If so, which I'm pretty sure we have, then it's more lip service (lies).
Two, why get rid of the bland? The company is making a fortune off of bland. And isn't this business about making money?

Interesting hairstyle.

Well his design credits look good. I'm hopeful he has better taste in design than hair style.

His hair has style ? Just a good way to never have to comb your hair nor cut them often

to be fair to him - facelifts to Avensis and Prius are pretty well done, especially Avensis which was MMC but really improved the look of the car. New Yaris looks very good too. The way automotive world works, it takes years for new ideas to propagate.

p.s. it is part of their PR campaign as well. A lot of reviewers automatically say that any Toyota is bland, even ones that are not. So now they have Dezi doing design explanations for any new car that comes out, on YouTube.
