guys, i'm old and i went through the struggle. i had 3 gs4's (2 '99s, 1 '04) and yes they were wonderful in handling and performance! then lex came out with this new body style in '06. cute, but confused! the 4.3 was limited and the hybrid was faster. so i waited.
come '07 they had this gorgeous LS and when i think of myself as a 2 dr coupe kind of guy - i was floored by this 4 dr barge that could park itself! my lex dlr is superb, so i get to drive what i want for as long as i want. loved the LS but was fighting the perception of it being an old man's car. well, i'm glad i got over that.
the LS is really bad-***. if u like the older 3-box design ('06 and earlier) b4 they went lextacy, fine - beauty is in the eye. . . like *******s, many have opinions and are invited to express them on these blogs. 90% can't afford an LS. i was there and i look down on no one but it's ez to critique something u can only wish u had. i don't spend $80k on a whip so that i can race some super-turbo-charged bm and lose my lic and potentially my whip over craziness. does that mean i don't have a fling every now and again? hell, no. i didn't buy this boulevardier to out run bm's or cops. mind u, there was a time when u could go mano emano with a cruiser. that generation is gone! today, they'll get a chopper in the air on our *** and it's a felony!! so y bother.
i'm from the era (yes, i'm old) where buying a stock car that did 14's in the quarter was amazing. i'm talking roadrunners, goats, 396 chevelles, 500 stangs, olds 442, and i could go on but those that KNOW get the pic. all those rides were under 3500 lbs with big blocks. these days we have a 4.6 pulling a 2 ton barge and getting 13s or lo 14s!! and ppl ***** - R U KIDDING ME!!
look, i welcome comments and this sharing platform but we need to keep some perspective. back in the day no one cared if u got 14 mpg. hell, we never measured caused gas was so cheap! today we have rides that would destroy the old metal in a crash, are much heavier, get double the mpg with a 6 cyl and are heavier, that, my friends is technology. let's embrace it and enjoy it. should u prefer a bm, go for it. i'd suggest unloading b4 100k but your problems may vary. a toy / lex will generally go 200k - key word is generally cause nothing's perfect, k. so don't take my head off.
we need to get a perspective, our world ain't sport much less nascar. it's a daily commute for the most part. we have families that depend on us for their livelihood. if u can't be happy with a barge that does qtrs' in the 14s then u have other issues. i'm in shock everyday. while my '07 got 26 city and 29 - 30 hwy, this '13 sucks with mpg. that said, if i choose to spend 80k on a new whip, do i really sweat a 15 - 20% decrease in mpg?
this lex is a perfect fit for me. i've had tubos and they fail. u can't beat the feeling while accelerating but they fail. most don't know how to drive a turbo. u can't drive like a non. u have to damn near coast for the last 5 mins before u shutdown so it cam spin down. what kills them is spinning w/o fresh oil. manufacturers need to have an elec pump to keep oil flowing for 3 mins after shutdown. also, u can't hit it out of the shoot. engine temp needs to normal to hot b4 that. take it from a guy who's replaced several on his z before he figured it out.
peace
