I traded in my '11 Camry Hybrid last month for my 'new' 95 mile '10 IS350.
Some of you may remember the Camry was rear ended last Dec.
Yet the Carfax shows
12/23/2010 New Jersey
Damage Report Accident reported
It hit another motor vehicle
Front area primarily damaged

Joe, did you trade the Camry in to the dealer? You'd think it would be in their best interests to get the Carfax corrected in case a potential buyer checks it out on their own. Can you get these things corrected?

After being cut off, a car driven by a friend of mine hit a traffic light post sufficiently hard that it broke off, resulting in a $14,000 repair job on the car (surprised they didn't just total it). Fortunately no one was injured in the accident, but when my friend was selling the car and told the buyer about the accident, the buyer was shocked because it had not sown up on carfax.
No one is saying carfax is worthless, but it is certainly not definitive - and for the prices they charge (and the way they advertise), I would think they should be expected to be.

Yeah Carfax and Autocheck are never always accurate. They can only report what is reported to them, and even then i'm sure there are errors getting them onto the actual reports. That's why its always a good idea to have a professional inspect the car before you purchase a used car

Long story but in short,I asked my wife what vehicle do you want.
She said quickly,a blue CR-V and she loves it.
It's not a bad vehicle.Slow but built well with no rattles.
Back in '07,I had a new Camry XLE that met a deer to the tune of $9K and I traded it a couple of months later after the repair and there wasn't any Carfax report of the incident.

Out of Warranty
Last spring when I was looking for a beater, Carfax turned up two nice looking candidates that had salvage titles, one that was exactly as advertised, and one that was actually a year newer than the seller (who had owned the car for nearly 10 years) had thought. I bought it. They may not catch everything, but title information can be critical . . . you don't want to find out you bought a stolen or junked car when you try to register it.
