Video: LS 460 owner recreates seminal Lexus commercial with different results
Remember that early Lexus commercial from 1989? You know the one, where an LS 400 is sitting on a dynamometer and makes a run up to 145 miles per hour, then the camera pans to the hood, where a large pyramid of crystal champagne glasses calmly sits? An Arizona Lexus owner decided to recreate that clip using his much newer LS 460.
So, does the more advanced and powerful LS fare as well the second time around? Certainly, the owner has a rather different approach, so click past the jump and see for yourself (we've also posted the classic '89 ad for those that need a refresher).

it was different car, with straighter hood, on incline and with empty glasses... very different experiment... this guy barely managed to put them on the car due to the hood design.
in fact i thought it went very well... i thought they would go down when he slammed doors like that.

Haha, LS400 hood was WAYYYY flatter and the paint wasnt so smooth and slippery.
And this guy is a complete dumb ***, does he realize that broken glass will scratch ANYTHING? At least buy some plastic wine glasses from party city, so you don't scratch your hood if they fall.

the original LS in the commercial was also put on an inclined dyno. Any way you look at it, it isnt a true representation, but I am glad he did it. Very interesting attempt.
the funny thing is that I saw this on the Lexus Enthusiast yesterday, and the actual guy who made the video chimed in on the comments!

Maybe the LS400 was a better car?

Yeah, completely different test with a totally different car.
The guy kept saying he couldn't remember the details of the commercial which is easily found online. Maybe he should've watched it before going through all this trouble.
He may have noticed the inclined dyno.
Still, I think his results were pretty good. He still had a good amount of glasses remain unshaken at high RPM and getting in and out shutting the door.
