The sheet metal, however, under those vinyl stick-on, WOULD sometimes rust......and, like with poorly-applied vinyl roofs, you didn't know it until the tell-tale rust-bubbles, pushing up from underneath, signaled that it was time for some body work. Still, it was (probably) better than having to deal with the quirks of maintaining and protecting real-wood body panels.
