Agreed, but the trend is at MB to do the right thing. And the SLK280 is 3.0L. Taking the naming away from the Marketing MBA-types might help.

The S550 in N.America is still the S500 in the rest of the world because of tradition, but they think it's the bigger the better for Americans ...

If the CL and S class are scrapped then what the hell are NBA players supposed to roll in. I guess its Bentley Continentals then

Yes, but the S500 in the rest of the world is also the same 5.5L (yes I've seen those in person in Europe and Asia), just that they retain the S500 designation for tradition, but they figure Americans prefer the "larger" numbers over tradition.

I wonder how the Marketing guys came up with the logic of the SLK280 for the 3.0L version........ Maybe it helps the SLK350 buyers feel more special.

Those who pick a SLK280 over the SLK350 probably care less about having higher numbers ?

I would tend to agree, but tell that to the Marketing types that put so much thought into the convoluted number scheme.

Better than C230 Kompressor when it had a 1.8 litre engine (and it was called the C180 Kompressor elsewhere in the world). Of course, that's not to be confused with our old C230 Kompressor with a 2.3 litre engine.
