The W126 and W140 are the ORIGINAL OG Benzes.

Those two were the classical definition of a Teutonic design ethic right there - besides the older 7 and 8 Series.

Oh well
In the past an S class two-door was known as "S class coupe", I believe, so they are essentially just returning to their roots.
Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

It depends on which previous generation of S-class based coupe. The W126-chassis coupe, they call them 380SEC, 420SEC, 500SEC and 560SEC :
The W140-chassis S-class coupe were still called SEC at the beginning, but were changed to S500 coupe and the S600 coupe later ...

The W-140 is OG and should of always stayed the "S" class but as you can see it a lot cheaper for Mercedes to keep as many cars under one class as possible. If the world economy was real good then it would be like I8ABMR said they would have like 31 flavors LoL

Yep, I like the SEC designation way better
I never liked the name CL. To me, it's too associated with the acura CL
The new CL and the 6 series have similar trait= big forehead like Tyra Banks

i think it's great that mb is aligning the names better with the models. lexus has always done this well. it just needs more models.

BMW needs to clean up its naming conventions too, by making the numbering=engine capacity (liters).

haha mb isn't much better though. all the 550 aren't 5.5L. 600 aren't 6.0L. 63 are actually 6.2L
