Hyundai to Unveil Prius-Like Hybrid in April
At the upcoming Seoul Motor Show, Hyundai will unveil a Prius-like dedicated hybrid car. The car is only a concept at this point, but with the recent introduction of the Honda Insight and the redesigned 2010 Toyota Prius, hybrid competition has been heating up globally this year.
Motor Authority reports, "Hyundai is determined to turn itself into a leader in hybrid technologies and has already unveiled a number of hybrid concepts." This latest effort is "powered by a proprietary plug-in hybrid drivetrain developed in Hyundai's South Korean R&D center. The drivetrain includes a 1.6L four-cylinder petrol engine with direct-injection technology, which is used to charge an array of lithium-polymer batteries. These batteries are used to power a small electric motor that drives the front wheels. The total output of the system is 154hp (115kW) and the claimed electric-only driving range is 40 miles - the same as the upcoming Chevrolet Volt."
Carscoop adds, "Other notable highlights of the BLUE-WILL include the use of recycled PET soft drink bottles for the headlamp bezels and bio-degradable plastics for the interior and the engine cover while the car's panoramic glass rooftop integrates dye-sensitized solar cells that generate power for the batteries from the sun without hurting visibility."
More details will be available at the Seoul Motor Show, which opens April 2.

Wow hyundai is not messing around. I think we can declare the war of the electric car official. The horsepower war started in mid 1990's and a decade later we had family sedans that performed like supercars from the previous decade. Can't wait to see what this war will bring a decade from now.
400 mile all electric range on nano utlra capacitors or lithium titanate batteries that charge in 3 minutes! and nano-solar cells on the roof that get 40-50% efficiency!
