Default Rumor: Possible FD3S Successor, 2012 Mazda RX-9

renderings of an RX-9 concept that it says would have a Wankel powerplant of somewhere around 1.8 liters, and be more oil and fuel efficient than the current generation. Power would make it to an unidentified number of wheels via a dual-clutch 6-speed transmission and limited-slip diff.

I really hope it happens, but I hope it doesn't look like that...

Yes, rotary engines are also referred to as Wankel engines. Named after its inventor, Felix Wankel. The FD3S rotary was a dual rotor 1.3 liter, the tri rotor found in the 787B is 2.0 liters.

Is this going to be a turbo also? 1.8L is a gigantic engine for a rotary - remember that Wankels get one combustion stroke per rev (as opposed to half per rev for a 4-stroke ICE) so it's the equivalent of 3.6L in the 4-stroke ICE. That's almost as much as the GT-R.

actually the infamous 787B ran the R26B - a 4 rotor 2.6L wankel engine (no real relation to production motors except for maybe the housing.)

the earlier 757 ran a highly modified 20B 3 rotor (that was only ever used in ONE production car, the Mazda (Eunos) Cosmo)

Why not continue the RX-7 legend? Anyways, I hope it will happen within two years instead of five, by then all Japanese car makers would have at least one super car.

I don't see it.
If anything I see SLK. The R8 is a mid engine car the end of the car ends too abruptly to me for an R8 resemblance.

yeah, they need to drop the rx8 look. althought this new one is better looking than the rx8, they still need to go back to small sporty profile of the fd. and reproduce the cosmos 20b now that would be nice.
