Rumor: Possible FD3S Successor, 2012 Mazda RX-9
renderings of an RX-9 concept that it says would have a Wankel powerplant of somewhere around 1.8 liters, and be more oil and fuel efficient than the current generation. Power would make it to an unidentified number of wheels via a dual-clutch 6-speed transmission and limited-slip diff.

Is this going to be a turbo also? 1.8L is a gigantic engine for a rotary - remember that Wankels get one combustion stroke per rev (as opposed to half per rev for a 4-stroke ICE) so it's the equivalent of 3.6L in the 4-stroke ICE. That's almost as much as the GT-R.
