Toyota to rename 3 Scion models as brand gets phased out
https://www.autonews.com/article/201...ets-phased-out
Toyota Motor Corp. said three models formerly under the Scion banner will have new names when they’re sold as Toyotas starting in the 2017 model year.

The name changes come in the wake of Toyota’s announcement in February that it would scuttle the Scion brand after the 2016 model year and sell the Scion vehicles as Toyotas.

The Scion FR-S in the U.S. market will now be the Toyota 86, as the two-door coupe is known in Asia, South America and Australia.

"When we announced the transition of the Scion models to Toyota we hadn’t planned on changing the names of our cars, but by popular demand, for our sports car, we decided to adopt the global name of 86," Toyota’s group vice president Bill Fay said today in a statement.

In addition to the new name, the 86 also gets a light mid-life update that will debut at the upcoming New York auto show: front and rear bumpers are new, as are the LED headlights and taillights. The engine and transmission carry over, but horsepower is up by five to 205 total and torque rises by five pound feet to 156 pound-feet total.

Meanwhile the subcompact iA sedan -- built by Mazda -- will be called the Toyota Yaris iA and the compact iM hatchback will be known as the Corolla iM when the vehicles go on sale for the 2017 model year.

Going forward, Toyota plans to report the sales volumes of normal Corolla and Corolla iM together as a single unit, as it will for the Yaris and Yaris iA.

The upcoming C-HR compact crossover keeps its name when it goes on sale in the U.S. in 2017 as a 2018 model. Toyota plans to show the C-HR concept at the New York show, despite the fact that it revealed the production model for the European market last month in Geneva.

Bleh... that new front is hideous. And today I read an article about the increase in power and I hate how they say it like it's the greatest thing: "gets more powerful engine!!!" 5hp?!?? really? it's pathetic if you ask me

OMG that front end is hideous! Does Toyota want to sell the car or kill it? I'm still waiting for any real horsepower increase as I don't want o add any aftermarket force induction to the car. So as long as Toyota and Subaru don't increase the power(5hp doesn't count), then I'm not buying.

+30hp is possible with just an intake, exhaust + Stage 3 tune... http://blog.perrinperformance.com/3-...ults-and-tune/

IMO, that's where the power should have started when the car was released.

I'm with you, they should offer more power. The WRX turbo motor would fit no problem in this car if they'd just do it. Its not like they'd have to redesign the whole car to put that engine in there.

You don't need a Hemi up front to make something of this small size and light weight scoot. Also, don't forget......for acceleration, the torque figure is usually more important than HP.

meh, retail prices for over-priced Perrin parts, similar just as good intake and exhaust can be had for much less I bet!

perrin's setup looks super high quality, plus it includes a car tune which isn't just a 'part'. you get what you pay for.

Just for comparison, $3100 worth of speed parts(heads, cam, sticky tires, better clutch or a torque converter for the automatic cars) will have you running mid/high 11 second quarter mile et's in an old LS1 V8 4th gen Camaro or Trans Am. That's in a car that runs mid 13's stock.

Getting any sort of straight line performance out of the BRZ platform has proven to be cost prohibitive, and will continue to be so until the factory starts making turbocharged cars.

These things will probably be the next Nissan 240SX in 5-10 years when they come down in price. A good place to start with either a turbo build or junking the factory motor for something else.

I'd still love to have one. It would be great fun. I'm fine with the power output.

And Subaru just one-upped Toyota with the refresh. I like everything I see except for the gauge cluster. They could have full round digital screen on the right instead of a half-arsed screen.
