kensteele,
does it have the blue or red LED display? also, can you post some pictures of your install? im interested in the overall size comparison vs the V1.. the 9500i definitely seems to be a little easier on the eye, not that that should matter a whole lot when considering a radar detector... im just interested in seeing a real-world setup as opposed to the manufacturer pictures.. thanks!

The 9500i has red lights, would have been cool to have blue even for extra $$. To me the new slim V1 looks ok (not hideous) but yes the 9500i looks a bit cooler. Either way, you can't see them much mostly due to high mounting on the windshield so looks end up being irrelevant. Overall, the V1 is not much bigger than the 9500i, I can try to get a pic of them together, just have to pull the V1 out of my trunk.
I am very pleased with the 9500i long range and it is pure joy to suppress non-radar alerts. Every day on the way to work, with the 9500i I get zero alerts unless there is a cop with radar. With the V1, I got a minimum of 5 and a couple of those go almost full bore. Very annoying.
Although I would say the 9500i "save the location of speedtraps" feature is pretty worthless locally.
I have yet to miss the V1 arrows because as I have said before, in Kansas traffic enforcement (for speed) is pretty minimal. Only the State uses rolling radar to some extent so most local cops are stationary and up ahead.

I just got my 9500i 2 days ago, and I can say nothing but good stuff about it. The lockout feature is awesome, and for me in Cali, the X band is never used so I just simply turned the X band off on the unit. So the thing never goes off unless there is a copper in the area. I love it. Now the next step is to hard wire it so I dont have the coiled cable hanging down. I wired to the rear view mirror, but did not work right...so some frustration there. Going to try and re solder today.

I just got my 9500i and read the manual. I haven't used it yet, but there are already some pros & cons that I've noticed.
Cons:
Cons:
- It's actually pretty big, even though the picture below doesn't really make it obvious.
- There's lots of buttons on top, where it is difficult to see if mounted high.
- The USB port doesn't seem to have any real usefull functionality, like acting as a GPS receiver for a laptop.
- "City" mode only reduces sensitivity on X-Band, and "Auto" mode only reduces sensitivity on X and K bands. Unfortunatly for me, most of the falses I got with my V1 seemed to be Ka band.
- I like the "Mark" feature since I can use it to warn of upcoming roads that I frequently miss (ie. country back roads at night).
- I'm glad to have the Auto Mute feature back. I hated that V1 didn't have it.

I have to have a way to minimize false alarms, because the use of the X-band is pervasive in my area. I would get sick of the thing falsing...so I need a way to minimize falses, or to simply cut out the X-band altogether.
If the V1 doesn't have this option (does it?), then I'd have to go Passport, which I believe does.
In the MD/VA area, cops use all laser, K and KA band.

Even my old 7500 allows X band beeping to be turned off.

Both Passport and V1 allow independent bands to be turned off (ignored).
I just got back from a long test drive of the 9500i, and I've got some more comments. I really like the digital GPS speedometer, but I wish it would update faster. It seems to update about once per second. It isn't a big problem. What is a BIG problem is that the damn thing rattles like crazy on the windshield! They REALLY screwed up with their design! It isn't much different from the V1 mount, but since it is so much heavier and longer, it bounces constantly even on smooth roads, and you can hear it bouncing on the glass. I don't know what I'm going to do about it...

I just got the 9500i and I love it. We have cameras on our freeways and you can mark cameras in the 9500's memory so it warns you. I don't think the V1 has an internal memory and it doesn't have a GPS chip. Also the 9500 has a USB port so that in the future you can go online and load all the red light and speeding cameras into its memory.
