Valentine 1, OR The new PASSPORT 9500I
Ok guys, havent been around for a while, and just got another damn speeding ticket. I am going to drop 450 chums on a new radar detector and wanted some opinions on which one to get. They both tickle my fancy, but need to know which is going to be the best. Some advice would be awesome. Thanks guys and gals. Sorry I have been gone for so darn long.

Wondering the same... are there reviews out yet for the Passport 9500?
Personally I don't see anything too great about the new Passport 9500 features (I currently own the Passport 8500). No matter what you get you still have to be smart about speeding. A radar/laser detector can only do so much especially with the rise of laser guns by our wonderful CHP. On Sunday I got tagged by a laser from a CHP car on the side of the freeway, luckily I saw him first and slowed down. And the only ticket that I have ever got was a speeding ticket where I got caught by an airplane.

I love my v1 to no end. It has saved me from countless tickets and it is very accurate if you know what to look for (with a little time you learn what to look for). The arrows are a nice feature because its easy to tell where the radar is coming from. Dont know much about the passport but it doesnt matter cause I know my v1 works and works well!!! It almost becomes a game of finding the police, I have to admit its very fun lol...

"Reviews say radar detectors offer almost no protection against laser guns. Only a laser jammer like the Blinder M-20 has the ability to use countermeasures against laser guns. While it is illegal to attempt to jam radar guns, it is legal in most states to use a laser jammer, which emits an infrared beam at the correct frequency to confuse laser guns long enough to give you an opportunity to slow down. Laser speed guns are increasingly used in urban areas, because they can easily pinpoint a single vehicle on a crowded roadway. Laser jammers are illegal in Minnesota, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Nebraska, Washington D.C. and Utah."

as an X50 and V1 owner I was really excited to hear about the 9500i - until I started reading about it and looking at the pics.
STILL no arrows and the controls are on the top of the unit which is harder to see/reach. So its an easy choice...I'm sticking with the V1.

the advantage of V1 is that its not a jerkoff company. they are VERY good about keeping your v1 up to date with their latest firmware as long as you check their website somewhat regularly. might be able to sign up for a listserv for it.
the reason the V1 has been the best for the last decade is because they are always ahead of the competition. and when the competition surpasses them, they blow the competition out of the water again.

As an owner of both the 8500 and the V1, the V1 stays in my car and the 8500 in hers.
Both are excellent detectors but the V1 is better.
When I first got my V1 I was coming home from work on the interstate, weak signal on K band from behind, I bravely sped up and the signal decreased and then dissapeared.
Every now and then I would get a very weak rear K band alert as I maintained 90+ mph, about 15 miles later I started getting a few very weak KA alerts from ahead, when they started to strengthen I slowed down, and then got increasingly strong K band from behind also.
With the V1 at full alert I passed a patrol car parked off the road who was steadily blipping traffic with his KA gun, and seconds later was passed by an unmarked cruiser doing the same with his K radar.
I knew then I had made the right decision buying the V1.

i've had and relied on the V1 for several years now. Last week, I ordered the 9500i to test it out (for use on my motorcycle). I will let you know how well it works. I am interested in the new GPS features.
