London Preview: Caparo T1 Supercar Set for Debut
Caparo T1 will be formally introduced at the British Motor Show this month.
The long-awaited Caparo T1 supercar, formerly called the Freestream T1.
It weighs a hair over 1,000 pounds.
Two former McLaren engineers must have been drinking some fortified orange juice when they came up with the look of the Caparo T1.

LONDON — The Caparo T1, a supercar project dreamed up by two former McLaren engineers, will officially break cover as early as July 20 at the British International Motor Show.
Although well publicized in recent months, this will be the first opportunity for the Caparo T1 — formerly known as the Freestream T1 — to be viewed widely by the general public in Britain.
Designed for both road and track use, the ultra-lightweight two-seater is the brainchild of Ben Scott-Geddes and Graham Halstead, who worked on the McLaren F1 and Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren programs. The two engineers were hired several months ago when the project was acquired by Caparo, a British component manufacturer with expertise in composites and other advanced technology.
The T1 employs aerospace and formula racing technology, coupling a mid-mounted, supercharged 495-horsepower 2.4-liter V8 engine with a lightweight tub. The total weight is just over 1,000 pounds, giving the T1 twice the power-to-weight ratio of a Bugatti Veyron, Caparo says.
The manufacturer claims the car has a 0-100-0-mph time of 8.5 seconds. Top speed is estimated in excess of 200 mph.
For more information, see the Caparo Web site.
What this means to you: Quicker than a speeding Veyron, at perhaps a quarter of the price.
