Lightbulb Shopping for used sports motorcycle

Just got my motorcycle license, and I'm looking for an used bike like the YAMAHA R6. Have about $5K to burn.......any good suggestions? I was thinking buying an 150cc scooter just for commuting (LA's traffic is officially f@ck up,) since I am a master in scooter riding (Most of the Taiwanese people are.) But I want something faster & can go onto the freeways. I have a friend who told me I should get an used HONDA CBR

A great commuter scooter would be a Honda Reflex. It's 250 cc, so it has a little more umphh than a 150cc. I used to have one and it can pull 85 mph comfortably, 100 mph to redline. And it uses 60 mpg!!! You can get one used for about $4k with less than 10k miles.

If you want a bike, the R6 is powerful but may be too uncomfortable in L.A. traffic. Too much leaning. I commute with a Suzuki SV because you are a bit more upright, and it still has enough spunk for canyon riding. If you want a really comfortable commuter, check out the V-Strom. Both the SV and V-Strom (650 cc engines) will be about $5k used with about 10K miles.

If you like scooters, then just buy a bigger scooter, like the Honda Silverwing. 150cc will get you killed on a freeway. Big scooter vs bike - It really comes down to what kid of ergo's you are after.

They're right E, the R6 is too much for a beginner bike. Get a Vespa.

I recently got an 2003 R6 limited edition (its black with red flames) with 3500 miles for $5500. I suggest buying it from a private seller. I found that the dealers I went to that sold used bikes were shady.
