Default opened up the differential

Today i pulled the factory diff and drained the oil and opened it up, heres what happened.

i unscrewed the drain cap and there was a hiss of air and no oil that came out, just sludge and metal bits stuck to the drain plug. the oil eventually came out, and I opened up the diff to discover that the some spider gear teeth are chipped.

i reinstalled my diff last weekend and I have been driving on it every day since then. The welded diff does feel a little weird around sharp, slow turns, but if your doing above 15, you really dont feel a thing. and now a little clutch kick in 2nd gets the back out no problem. feels like your driving in the rain almost

ive been driving and alls been going well. I took the front bumper off, and I am going to sand it and repaint it. \

THe good news: alls been going well, the car runs well, and ive had no problems with it

the bad: I slid off the road a couple feet the other day in the rain (nothing serious) but somehow I managed to bend the front right fender. I still dont know how, but it got pushed up, and because its bolted in on top, it bend out probably 1/2 cm. so i unscrewed the fender to move it around until the door could open and close.

I also bought a aux cable for my alpine head unit off ebay, and it didnt fit. it was slightly frustrating, because I did the work to take the panned around the hear unit off and everything to find that it didnt fit. but ill go get one from the local audio store.

Also, is it possible to put a new shift boot in the original plastic shift boot holder? it seems like the lip that holds the shift boot in place in permanently attached.

if anyone has an answer to the question in my previous post, please let me know.

and I have another question now.

today i tucked my front drivers side wiring harness up over the lip in the wheel well. i just tucked it up over the lip and ziptied it, but the car wouldnt start well. it acted like it had a dead battery. hard to crank, sometimes it would click and not crank. i think it was because the harness was stretched really tight like that. is there any way to get more slack out of the harness when running it over that lip?
thanks
added thought: I unclipped the harness and put it back into a full slack/ relaxed position and the car started up fine, same as normal

I am unable to get my car to start (the starter motor wont go) because of the wiring harness tuck that I tried to do today.
I left the harness plugged in when I tried to lift it up above the lip, and the wire that goes to the starter motor must have been pulled out of its connector somewhere.

if anyone has info on the wire for the starter motor, that would be great help
thanks

now its starting up fine, so im guessing that one of the wires for the starter motor is on and off working, some time it has contact, other times it doesnt.

If i am able to figure out which wire that is, ill be able to work out the issue, I think.

Im going to check out the fuses and grounds in the footwell area and make sure everything is in good shape
I found these threads which point me there
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...n-a-sc300.html
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...locations.html

I have one of those little volt meters that I will test with, though Im not sure exactly what to look at/for. I guess I will just check all the fuses and test the voltage through each fuse and then make sure none of them are blown. Im not sure how to go about checking the grounds

and once I am able to get a wiring diagram, I will check out that starter wire

the cars running well now, no wiring issue
im going some work on the interior, I have the center console and shifter area removed so I can wire in an aux wire for the sound system when I get around to it.

I also took out the old shift boot and I was going to buy a new one but my friends mom offered to sew one for me, so I might take her up on her offer and do one with a custom type of material, probably a plaid design.

meanwhile, Im in the search for some 17" wheels, probably 4 allow wheels from something like an explorer or some other suv. Ive realized that you I can get free used 17" tires easily from the local gas stations, so that makes the most sense for now.

And I took out all the fender lining stuff and whatnot.

i have all the fender lining in good shape in case any one wants it. ill give it out for free basically

when I took out the one part under the bumper, there was the side of a bushing resting in it

looks like new bushings are up next on the list: control arms, steering rack, and whatever else I can think of

Also, I have the rubber seal and metal strip that goes one top of the bumper, in case anyone wants that

I also took off the fiberglass deadening cloth on the inside of the hood. it was had a large grey/green spot and it looked really pretty terrible
