Default How do you guys clean your exhaust.

Do you guys just wipe it off with a microfiber towel and car washing soap and that's it? Do you also use like a wired scrubber to clean the carbon inside.

I don't use a wired scrubber although for the inside I guess it's ok. I use Mothers mag & aluminum polish with an old cut up shirt or towel. Smells terrible, works great.

I've used SOS pads, they work wonders on metals without scratching it. Then hit it with a polish, if I'm not in a rush.

Microfiber cloth with spray bottle of Mix Auto Soap & Water. Spray onto the outer exhaust tip and inside to scrub it down with Microfiber. I also get around the sides, bottom, and behind the tip muffler box.

If the exhaust is fully dull and dark chocolate tip then use a scrub with polisher.

I use something called Barkeeps friend. It's a mild abrasive compound that works amazing on chrome without harming it. Used it for years.

Never would have thought to use Barkeepers friend. I love that stuff. I use it all the time to clean my pots and pans, why not my exhaust.

I really need to experiment with a few of these....... The Tanabe tips are quite dirty and I haven't polished them properly in quite a while. Inside is the beveled edge of the tip is much worse than the outside.

Oven cleaner first, then polish to shine and take off anything that is left.

For heavy buildup as seen on these X5 tips, we reach for #0000 Ultra Fine steel wool to clean the years of carbon buildup on the inside of the tips. Apply metal polish to the steel wool, and rub the polish against the surface until the buildup is removed.

For the lighter oxidation on the outside of the tips and in the 2nd set of photos, simply apply some metal polish to a microfiber towel and rub the outside to remove the oxidation.

Once they are cleaned up properly, a simple wipe down with a wet MF towel will keep them looking great.

We prefer to purchase black microfiber for dirty jobs such as this.

No detail is complete without shining exhaust tips.

not sure if the metal is different on different models but for the NX it is a tip and is a metal like aluminum with a chrome look. It has a coating that makes it easy to wipe to clean. I am able to use a basic damp towel to clean it off. If I am using an armor all wipe on the interior I will use the same wipe after on the aluminum tips. At the brushless car wash the workers who wipe down the vehicle after the wash use their towels and just wipe the tips down. I am more concerned at cleaning off the dark residue from the exhaust instead of making it shine like a mirror since 5 minutes after I drive away it will gather dust again.
