Water bounces off this laser-etched surface, rolls off at 4 degrees. I couldn't find a droplet contact angle stated.

Holy Macro!!! Damn, I thought paint coating is advanced. This laser treatment is even more advanced!!! If this technology is matured and applied to paint protection. This for sure will change the game plan again!

Evolution of detailing:
Wax > Sealant > Paint coating > Laser treatment

Awesome stuff

Though I'll go out on a limb and say having a laser cut surface on your vehicle for the shear sake of repelling water will likely never happen

... So for now, keep spreading that wax

Pretty awesome, having those effects on a car would be cool though

After seeing that video I have to admit, that is cool as hell.

I wish they showed a bit more on how the surface is actually transformed into being that hydrophobic, but I understand that this part was not showed for obvious reasons.

If this treatment actually etches the surface, does that mean it cannot/ should not be applied to automotive paints?
