Since you are not enthused about doing the washing and waxing yourself, here is a low effort / high appearance solution you may like.

Meguiar's Paint Protect. This will provide protection for up to a whole year even assuming weekly washing. This is a simple wipe on - wipe off sealant that is easier to use than most waxes.

I'd suggest using Ultimate Quik Wax after every wash or two if you wish to keep the gloss and slickness at peak levels but thats entirely optional.

Ultimate Quik Wax

Note that Meguiar's Paint Protect is new and may not show up in your local auto stores until December - January.

I wax my car about once a month, depending on weather conditions. Like everyone said, use a car wash product that won't strip the wax from your car. I use meguiars gold class wash and that seems to preserve my wax job pretty well. And of course, always use soap to wash your car and not just water lolz.

I'm always scared to wax mine - but the very occasional time really does make a big difference!

Afraid to wax? Why?

A cheap inexpensive finish protector is NuFinish sold by WalMart. It is easy on wipe off and good for six months. Rain water beads up nicely and when it no longer does I rewax with the same thing. I've been using it for years and have had no problems with it.

I wash about once per week with Meguiars ultimate wash and wax, and apply a thorough layer of wax every 3-4 months. I use Meguiars ultimate liquid wax, probably better products out there but this works well for me and I find it easier to apply and wipe off. Also, it can be applied in shade or sun, so makes it easy to apply even when weather conditions are not optimal. Once per year I will clay bar followed by a wax. My LS is garage kept and only driven about 9k miles per year, though.
