Obsidian and Onyx
Does anyone know how these are different? Is one more durable than the other? I have Obsidian and am considering Onyx for a different vehicle.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Thanks. I have Obsidian and absolutely love the clean back car look but it gets scratched so easily. Onyx is available in the US. The particular vehicle I'm interested (GX) comes with Onyx. I was hoping someone would say Onyx is more scratch resistant.

Onyx is definately available in the US. Difference between Obsidian and Onyx is a bit of a rabbit hole of sorts. Reason being is depending on who you ask, your liable to get diff answers.
It's been stated that the diff between the two is Obsidian has a clear coat while Onyx does not. However dig deeper and you'll find that some Onyx paint jobs pass the test for having Clear while others do not.
Another take has been that Obsidian has metal flake and Onyx doesn't.
I haven't been able to make heads or tails of it all just yet, but just so your clear, Onyx is indeed available in the US and has been for some time. Also if one were to compare the two in person, Im told, save for the most up close of scrutiny, it is very hard to tell them part.

unfortunately BN, you are going to have the same characteristics with the Onyx... if you look at it hard enough... you will scratch it. Love the OB and the OX colors but i will NEVER buy another one. will continue to admire them from afar.

Thank you for the feedback guys.
Syd,
Fortunately, I decided not to get another black car. We've been checking out different colors and have come to a conclusion -- go with the color that's closest to Syd's car. IMO the new GX looks best in this color.

yes... come over to the darkside my friend, (always wanted to say that) SP is so much easier, it's like a cheap date... no effort is needed. i'm getting old, if it's easier to maintain with minimal effort, then i'm all for it. i ONR her once a week, and if i feel frisky, i'll give her a traditional bath. she still looks brand new. oh, BTW... don't forget to get a bottle of GTECHNIQ C2V3 Liquid Crystal... if ya don't like it i'll send you your money back. get the 500ml bottle

I hear you, buddy. I'm too getting old. My GS has not been washed for couple of weeks. Son once said, "are you abandoning your car?" For some reasons I thought your LS were ultra white. I'm already enjoying her SP. So most likely my next car will be SP as well unless there's a new attractive color. I'm debating on whether I should coat hers or just use stuff like C2V3. Thanks for the review.
